Sony has announced that The Spot and Vulture will be two of the villains facing off against the spidery team in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Plus, Captain George Stacy will join the fray, and Sony has announced the cast members for all three roles.According to the Spider-Man comics, Dr. Jonathan Ohnn was a scientist who worked for Kingpin. One night, he created a solid black circular portal. The portal caused a drain on the city's power, which created a blackout all over the city, causing the portal to destabilize. Fearful of losing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Ohnn stepped into the portal. When Ohnn emerged back into his lab, his body had undergone a radical transformation, making him The Spot. While Vulture has already had a film adaptation, it has not yet been announced if Across the Spider-Verse will follow the same storyline as Tom Holland's Spider-Man: Homecoming.RELATED: Across The Spider-Verse: Spidey Variants Who Could Appear In The Sequel The official Across the Spider-Verse Twitter page announced The Spot's entrance. "Meet The Spot, Miles Morales' most formidable foe yet," they tweeted. The team also confirmed that Jason Schwartzman (The French Dispatch, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) will be voicing the villain in the upcoming sequel. Sony Pictures Animation announced Vulture's appearance during the Annecy Festival in France. While many of the screenings are private, the Sony Twitter team shared updates through a Twitter thread. "In that Across the Spider-Verse clip we saw: An anachronistic version of The Vulture (voiced by Jorma Taccone), our old friend Spider-Man 2099 (voiced by Oscar Isaac), and the incomparable (and pregnant!) Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman (voiced by Issa Rae)," Sony shared.

The Vulture announcement clearly was not standing alone. The announcement that Spider-Man 2099 and Spider-Woman would be making an appearance was already known. However, many wonder what an "anachronistic version" of Vulture means. Many Spider-Man fans picture Michael Keaton's Vulture when they hear news about the infamous villain. However, it seems as though the Spider-Verse team has some major redesign plans for the second film.

Aside from the news that Vulture and The Spot will be appearing in the film, Sony also shared that Earth-65's Gwen Stacy (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld) will be returning for the film. She will also be accompanied by her father, George Stacy (voiced by Shea Whigham), a "by the books" cop. In an exclusive clip shared at Annecy Festival, George responds to a disturbance call at the Guggenheim Museum. Naturally, Spider-Gwen beats him there and runs into some new faces.

As the theatrical release date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse draws closer, fans hope to hear more news about who will be in the film and what they should expect to see. The anticipation is growing, making the long wait harder.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is projected to release in theaters on June 2, 2023.
