After Avengers: Endgame and WandaVision  introduced the concept of an MCU multiverse, an endless number of opportunities were opened up for the MCU. From mind-blowing franchise crossovers to potential resurrections of fallen heroes, it seems like the possibilities are now endless for Marvel's writers, and at least fan proposes Emilia Clarke has been cast as Spider-Woman for Secret Invasion.

Secret Invasion, the upcoming Disney Plus series based on the comic books of the same name, will give studio creatives the chance to explore new plots and characters via the Skrulls. In the comics, the Skrulls are a faction of alien shape-shifters who have been trying to invade Earth for many, many years.

Skrulls were first introduced to the MCU in Captain Marvel, where they are revealed to be a group of terrorized beings who simply desire a planet that they could call their home. The  Secret Invasion comics, however, show the Skrulls in a different light - instead of being neutral to conflict, the Skrulls hold a long-standing grudge against the Earth's mightiest heroes; one that motivates them to seize the planet as their own. At some point in their mission, the Skrulls assume the identities of a number of high-profile superheroes, including Spider-Woman, a S.H.I.E.L.D. Operative who plays a critical role in the story.

For many months, fans have been speculating on when Spider-Woman will be making her MCU debut and which actress will be cast to portray her. Secret Invasion could give us some clarification to those uncertainties. Previous rumors had Star Wars' Daisy Ridley as the frontrunner to play the superheroine, but after recent reports confirmed that Game Of Thrones'  Clarke would be joining the Secret Invasion  cast, fans are now theorizing that she will be the next Jessica Drew and will make her first MCU appearance as the character in the Disney Plus series.

Should Clarke actually end up donning the iconic red and yellow Spider-Woman suit, she would likely only play the Skrull version of Spider-Woman; that is, the Skrull Princess Veranke. That said, Marvel Studios could also be setting her up to play the real Jessica Drew in the rumored Spider-Woman solo film, which is said to be in the works at Sony under the direction of Booksmart's Olivia Wilde.

Of course, all of these rumors should be taken with a grain of salt, as neither Marvel nor Sony has released any official statements confirming such. Still, it's exciting to think about what Clarke and her other Secret Invasion co-stars such as Samuel L. Jackson, The Crown's Olivia Colman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Ben Mendelsohn will bring to the table.

Secret Invasion  is currently in development at Marvel Studios.
