Summary

  • Fans are still uncovering new details in Marvel's Spider-Man even after 6 years since its release.
  • One Spider-Man player discovered they could use the Web Zip move to go through towers in Silver Sable's outposts.
  • Discoveries like the traversal trick in the game's open world showcase Insomniac's attention to detail.

A fan of Marvel’s Spider-Man recently discovered a seldom-seen traversal trick after playing through the game for over 200 hours. While last year’s Spider-Man 2 built on the formula established by Insomniac in many interesting ways, fans are continuing to find new and exciting details in the original Marvel’s Spider-Man, which was released on the PlayStation 4 in 2018. Utilizing the same open-world format of classic Spider-Man games like the much-beloved 2004 Spider-Man 2 movie tie-in, Marvel’s Spider-Man puts players in the role of an experienced Peter Parker as he battles legendary foes like Doctor Octopus and the Sinister Six.

Marvel’s Spider-Man was a massive success for Insomniac, earning rave reviews and kicking off an ongoing gaming universe consisting of 2020’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the previously mentioned Spider-Man 2, and the currently in-development Marvel’s Wolverine. Part of what made the first game such a hit was the level of detail Insomniac placed in its digital version of New York City, from landscapes referencing Doctor Strange and the Avengers to the different animations that play out whenever Spidey travels along a different surface. Even six years after Marvel’s Spider-Man first swung onto the PS4, gamers are still uncovering surprising new details.

An example of this comes from Reddit user NewDot5635, who recently shared a clip of Spider-Man swinging through one of Silver Sable’s paramilitary outposts on r/SpidermanPS4. During this clip, Spidey uses his Web Zip move to launch himself through one of the outpost’s towers, a scene that took NewDot5635 by surprise after playing the game for over 200 hours.

Spider-Man Player Finds Neat Trick for Sneaking Through Silver Sable’s Outposts

These Sable International outposts can be found throughout Spider-Man’s open world starting in the game’s third act, as they are set up by Silver Sable to help track down Mister Negative and Doc Ock. As they are also being used to detain New York citizens, Spider-Man decides to tear them down, which the player can do to earn Base Tokens that can be spent on unlocking new Suits and gadget upgrades. This includes knocking down the towers, meaning that it can be quite rare for Spidey to zip through one like NewDot5635 did in their clip.

The fact that players can do so is an impressive discovery to be sure, as well as another example of Insomniac’s attention to detail in Marvel’s Spider-Man and its sequels. Exploring the open world and making new discoveries like this is one of the elements that keep bringing players back to Marvel’s Spider-Man, and can be a great way to pass the time during the long wait for the already-confirmed Spider-Man 3.
