The rebellious Spider-Punk from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is now swinging through Spider-Man: Miles Morales thanks to a new mod. Marvel’s multiverse is filled with interesting Spider-Man variants, many of which have been featured in the two animated Spider-Verse movies. Better still, some of their costumes are included as unlockable skins in Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, allowing fans to navigate through Insomniac’s version of New York City as their favorite Spider-hero.One such variant is Spider-Punk, aka Hobbie Brown. In the comics, Hobie was bitten by a mutated spider and used the powers he gained from it to rally the people of Earth-138 against the corrupt President Norman Osborn and his V.E.N.O.M. Soldiers. This hard-rock version of Spidey eventually made his way to the big screen in this year’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, where he was voiced by Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya. He has quickly become a fan-favorite due to his anti-establishment attitude and unique visual style that is just as vibrant and memorable as the hero himself. While there already is an unlockable version of Spider-Punk’s costume in Marvel’s Spider-Man, a recent mod is introducing a take more in-line with Hobie Brown’s animated counterpart. Twitter user and artist Galan posted a clip of a Spider-Punk mod for Spider-Man: Miles Morales that they helped work on. Using a character model created by fellow Twitter user DeadGunned, this mod captures Spider-Punk’s signature rock-inspired look with a leather jacket, various anti-authority symbols, and plenty of spikes across Hobie’s head, shoulders, and armbands.
The Spider-Verse movies have been represented in Insomniac’s Spider-Man games before, with the cel-shaded Peter B. Parker being included as a skin in the original Marvel’s Spider-Man and the animated version of Miles Morales being unlockable in Spider-Man: Miles Morales - complete with a special suit mod that recaptures the movie’s stylish frame rate. With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 set to launch on PlayStation 5 this October, there is a good chance that some of the other Spider-heroes featured in Across the Spider-Verse could be introduced as unlockable character skins - including Spider-Punk.
In the meantime, Galan and DeadGunned’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Spider-Punk skin does a great job of capturing Hobie Brown's animated counterpart in all of his punk-rock glory. Galan states that they are working to recreate Spider-Punk's signature character outline and occasional freeze-frame effects, meaning that this mod could become even more like Across the Spider-Verse in the future.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales is available for PC, PS4, and PS5.
