A new leaked photo from the set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has reached the community’s eyes, and one important detail may help pinpoint when Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 is placed within the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s timeline. Even though Sony still has the rights to Spider-Man and the hero’s affiliated characters, Holland first appeared as the MCU’s Peter Parker back in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. The 2019 sequel, Far From Home, introduced Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio into the mix, but 2021’s No Way Home was a real fan-service spectacle, bringing Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Men into town.

The placeholder title, Spider-Man 4, previously confused Marvel fans, as a sequel to the Sam Raimi trilogy from the 2000s, starring Maguire as the web-slinger, was also rumored to be in production and would also be a fourth installment. However, Spider-Man 4 was later revealed to be Brand New Day, a successor to Tom Holland’s three live-action features in the MCU following the heartbreaking events showcased in No Way Home. Holland is set to return to continue Peter's coming-of-age story, alongside familiar faces Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, who will play MJ and Ned once again. Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle was also confirmed to be joining Spider-Man 4, but some fans worried the film’s lower rating may water down The Punisher’s R-rated brutality.

Posted by update_mcu on Instagram and spotted by ComicBook, a set photo from the film’s current filming in Glasgow, Scotland, revealed a fictional construction site, noting that the building in question had a December 2027 completion date and some fans think this could be the new Fisk Tower. If this date is anything to go by, that seemingly puts Brand New Day’s setting before the events of Avengers: Doomsday, reported to be set in 2028 or 2029. Holland previously shared what audiences could expect from Brand New Day, and the actor also confirmed Spider-Man 4’s return to “old-school filmmaking” starting in Glasgow, since No Way Home was shot on stages because of the pandemic.

With Brand New Day’s story seemingly being placed before Doctor Doom’s arrival, Avengers: Doomsday’s release date delay may also give Spider-Man 4 breathing room. That being said, on the heels of The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ release, both Brand New Day and Doomsday are filming at the same time, despite being released six months apart, currently. Understandably, Doomsday may take a little more time to film, considering the mammoth cast that’s involved and all the actors’ schedules to consider.

Doomsday may feature one of Marvel’s most iconic battles, which, of course, involves the X-Men. Familiar faces from the 20th Century Fox X-Men era include beloved actors Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, and the returning MCU star roster is stacked. Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, the Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts*’ Florence Pugh, Tom Hiddleston, and Robert Downey Jr. As Doctor Doom are just a few names gracing the project, and some speculate another wave of casting is yet to arrive.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to be released on July 31, 2026.
