Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is joining the ranks of two of the highest-rated games in Insomniac’s 29-year history. With less than a week until the Sony exclusive releases, Spider-Man 2 is one of this year's most anticipated games. As the days count down, Insomniac Games has been teasing fans by releasing a number of promotional materials, including a new trailer ahead of the launch, giving glimpses not only of some iconic villains from Spider-Man's storied history, including the Lizard, Kraven the Hunter, and Venom, but also of several suits that players can collect for Peter and Miles.

Review embargos have been lifted for the sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and with the game earning a score of 91 on Metacritic, it now ties with Insomniac Games’ Spyro: Year of the Dragon and Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal as the developer’s highest rated titles. Spyro: Year of the Dragon was the third entry in the series and was released for the PlayStation in 2000, while Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal was also the third game in its series and was released for the PlayStation 2 in 2004.

Last month, the official Spyro Twitter account announced that the Spyro Reignited Trilogy sold 10 million units across four console systems. On the other hand, the latest installment of the Ratchet and Clank series, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, was heralded as one of the PS5’s true next-generation games when the console first launched.

Considering the age of these franchises and the fact that these games are still talked about today shows their enduring legacy. And it seems that good things do come in threes. Spyro: Year of the Dragon, Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal, and Spider-Man 2 are the third titles in their respective franchises to have the same Metacritic score. While it may still be early to talk about the legacy of Spider-Man 2, reviews are calling it the “best entry in the Insomniac’s Spider-Man game universe,” so gamers may have nothing to worry about.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 releases on October 20 for PS5.
