Melee combat is a major part of Space Marine 2's overall combat. While it is not required, melee is how players will earn back health, and performing executions will restore armor. Especially when facing the Tyranids, most of them will be charging at you full speed and a good melee weapon at your side is a necessity.

As you upgrade your melee weapons in Operations, there will be various stat pros and cons that add choices between which path to take on a weapon. On top of just the base stats, all melee weapons have defensive profiles; Block, Balanced, and Fencing. These defensive styles determine how your melee weapon works, and should be considered just as much as the change in stats.

Each class in Space Marine 2 has a distinct ability that can be used effectively to save the day and claim victory against Tyranid swarms.

What Is Fencing In Space Marine 2

Fencing is one of the defensive styles a melee weapon can get when being upgraded, with the other two styles being Block and Balanced. Using a weapon with Fencing will give players a wider window to parry incoming enemy attacks, so perfect parries and subsequent executions will be very easy to land. If your weapon does have the Fencing style, it does weaken how well that weapon blocks incoming damage.

Blocking and Fencing are the two sides of defense in melee combat, with balance of course being in the middle, and it's up to the player's preference which is best. Fencing can be found on any melee weapon, and there are also Balanced or Block choices for most of the later rarity upgrades for a weapon.
