The launch of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 sees a bundle of 6 classes available across Operations and Eternal War. Whilst all classes have their uses across PvE and PvP, this focus will be mainly on Operations, aiding players that seek to jump into the PvE content with their battle brothers, all armed with their individual roles that will aid the fight and claim victory through the challenges that await them on every difficulty.

7 Strangest Parts Of Warhammer 40K Lore

Warhammer 40K is packed with some of the strangest, most unsettling, or downright funny pieces of lore around.

1

The best classes in Space Marine 2 depend totally on each player’s unique style, with a different set of weapons, perks, visuals, and abilities gracing them to make everyone useful against Tyranids and Chaos alike. For players who are heading into Operations, the best classes in Space Marine 2 will see them unleash fury for the Emperor.

A Tad Over-Reliant on Jump Packs and Hammer Swings

Secondary Weapons

  • Bolt Pistol
  • Heavy Bolt Pistol

Melee Weapons

  • Thunder Hammer
  • Chainsword
  • Power Fist

Ability

Jump Pack

Armor Class

The Assault class is reserved for those on easier difficulties, as this is an extremely melee-focused class that requires players to be aware of their surroundings at all times. The Assault class prefers heavy-hitting and hard-swinging melee weapons like the Thunder Hammer, which are further complimented by the Jump Pack ability.

With the Assault class, players are going to dash and charge straight into the fight, laying waste to foes with slow-hitting hammer strikes which might be more of a risk for Assault players than it is for enemies. Assault players can only really play at close range, and their secondary weapons won’t aid that much.

5 Vanguard

Agile Combatant With Great Weapon Choices

vanguard class

Primary Weapons

  • Instigator Bolt Carbine
  • Occulus Bolt Carbine
  • Melta Rifle

Secondary Weapons

Bolt Pistol

Melee Weapons

  • Combat Knife
  • Chainsword

Ability

Grapnel Launcher

Armor Class

2

The Vanguard acts as the average class for everyone in Space Marine 2, and their selection of decent weapons for primaries, secondaries, and melee provides a decent arsenal that can effectively take care of most situations. However, the Vanguard also has a rather lacking ability that is more likely to get them into trouble which will be harder to get out of than other classes.

The Vanguard can use a Grapnel Launcher to perform Diving Kicks at enemies, but this ability doesn’t offer much assistance to the team. The Vanguard is mainly used for those who just want to run in armed with a decent Bolt Carbine and Bolt Pistol without having to provide team support.

4 Bulwark

Great Rally Potential For Fans of Aggressive Melee Combat

Ability

Chapter Banner

Armor Class

The Bulwark is armed with a sword and shield to take the fight directly to the enemies. It’s a high-risk playstyle that some players might not enjoy, as it requires a mastery of parries and evasions to be maneuverable. Bulwark players can take the aggressive enemies away from their brothers, and utilize their melee weapon and shield to absorb damage and dish out powerful cleaving potential.

Warhammer 40K: The Strongest Factions According To Lore, Ranked

Warhammer 40K's lore is riddled with warfare among factions. Which of the many sides of the conflict are the most powerful?

1

The Bulwark is a lot of fun, and players can rally with confidence with the Chapter Banner ability, but the Bulwark also suffers from a lack of firepower. Armed only with a secondary weapon, the Bulwark is going to cleave through enemies, meaning long-distance is not the play for this class.

3 Tactical

Versatile For Every Playstyle

tactical class

Primary Weapons

  • Bolt Carbine
  • Auto Bolt Rifle
  • Bolt Rifle
  • Heavy Bolt Rifle
  • Stalker Bolt Rifle
  • Plasma Incinerator
  • Melta Rifle

Secondary Weapons

Bolt Pistol

Melee Weapons

Chainsword

Ability

Auspex Scan

Armor Class

3

Every team needs a Tactical player on their side, especially when there is a varied selection of weapons for each category. The Tactical class has a great selection, meaning that even if ammo is in short supply, most of the enemies will be dead, and a Chainsword can easily cleave through the remaining forces. Tactical also has an ability that benefits the entire team.

The Auspex Scan will allow players to scan enemies for the team, and those scanned enemies will be more vulnerable to attack. It can be combined with boss fights to make short work of the toughest enemies, and it’s a team play that could save the day.

2 Heavy

Hulking Weapons That Devastate the Battlefield

heavy class

Primary Weapons

  • Multi-Melta
  • Heavy Bolter
  • Heavy Plasma Incinerator

Secondary Weapons

  • Plasma Pistol
  • Bolt Pistol

Ability

Iron Halo

Armor Class

3

The Heavy Class focuses on oversized weaponry, and their main method of attack will be expunging all their ammunition to deal with the endless waves of enemies that are encountered on the battlefield. Armed with weapons like the Heavy Bolter, those of the Heavy Class won’t see much versatile melee combat, but they will see themselves confidently marching through the battlefield, especially when using the Iron Halo special ability.

Typhus, Sevatar and Ahriman
Warhammer 40k: Strongest Chaos Space Marines Who Aren't Primarchs

Chaos Space Marines are some of Warhammer 40k's most feared characters, and not all of them are primarchs.

Heavy Class players can protect their allies and use shielding to navigate the battlefield with ease, stomping out the competition with their fierce weaponry. The only major problem with the Heavy unit lies in how they become a tad redundant when there is no ammo around, as using their gun as a melee weapon is slow and more of a temporary deterrent than a slaying weapon.

1 Sniper

Perfect For Solo Players Who Want Near Instant-Killing Snipers

sniper class

Primary Weapons

  • Stalker Bolt Rifle
  • Bolt Sniper Rifle
  • Las Fusil
  • Bolt Carbine

Secondary Weapons

Bolt Pistol

Melee Weapons

Combat Knife

Ability

Camo Cloak

Armor Class

2

Whilst players should always stick as a unit of 3, the Sniper allows for more freedom of play for the lone wolves out there. The Sniper’s special ability allows them to avoid the fight for a moment with temporary invisibility, concealing them totally until they fire a shot. The Sniper’s weaponry is also what makes them one of the best classes in Space Marine 2 since the Bolt Sniper Rifle and the LAS Rifle are absurdly powerful.

With these two primary weapons at the focus of the Sniper’s arsenal, players will easily one-shot enemies and deal devastating blows to boss encounters. Whilst Snipers might suffer from overwhelming swarms of lesser enemies, their melee weapon and secondary weapon are fast enough to keep up, and their Camo Cloak allows the perfect getaway when things get too tough.
