The Halo franchise is one of the biggest names in science fiction video games, and its epic universe of grand war and conflict is still a fan favorite. While the first game's stirring tale of survival against a terrifying alien superweapon was memorable in its own right, the sequel expanded on the lore and the storylines of individual characters, making for a stronger narrative overall.

The most remarkable thing about Halo 2's storyline was the addition of a new playable character, a Covenant warrior known as the Arbiter. This unlikely hero gave players a new perspective on the alien menace confronting Master Chief and the UNSC, and makes for some truly fascinating character dynamics when the two soldiers come face to face.

Tacoma, a narrative adventure game from the makers of Gone Home, sets protagonist Amitjyoti Ferrier adrift on an abandoned space station. On her quest to recover the AI program running the facility, Amy learns what happened to the crew of the station through the use of an AR program that fills the rooms and halls of the station with holographic images of the crew, playing out recorded conversations and moments leading up to their enigmatic fate.

The narrative that unwinds through Tacoma's digital ghosts is a stirring tale of perseverance and corporate corruption. The stress faced by the characters on the station as they face the emergency that will eventually leave the station derelict is deeply engaging, especially as the player begins to form emotional connections with these missing crewmembers.

The first Dead Space game introduced fans to the horrifying Necromorphs and the hapless, traumatized engineer Isaac Clarke. Dead Space 2 expands on the fiction in a big way, shifting the action from the doomed ship Ishimura to the Sprawl, a massive moon-based space station overcome with horror due to the government's clandestine attempt to build a Marker in its depths.

In Dead Space 2, players learn more about the horrific alien technology that creates the dreadful Necromorphs, as well as Isaac's role in this endless cycle of pain. The character's trauma is also explored in greater depth, and fans can get to know him much better, since this is the first game where he's fully voiced.

BioWare's classic Star Wars RPG set a standard that not many games in the iconic setting have been able to match. This immersive quest casts the player as a Jedi initiate, exploring the galaxy in a quest to claim the legendary Star Forge and protect the Republic from the Sith.

Like many other BioWare games, Knights of the Old Republic leans heavily on player choice. Fans can decide to fall to the Dark Side if they so choose. This plays well into the narrative when it is revealed that the player's custom character is, in fact, the legendary Darth Revan, wiped of their evil memories. The choices fans can make in Knights of the Old Republic have massive consequences for this legendary sci-fi setting.
