South Park is officially leaving HBO Max, marking the end of an era for the franchise. South Park has been a pop culture phenomenon since it burst on the scene in 1997 and remains one of the most popular shows to this day. Considering the sheer popularity of South Park, it's really no surprise that the streaming rights for the adult animated series have gone for eye-watering prices.
Initially, South Park's streaming home was HBO Max. Through the platform, subscribers have been able to enjoy almost all of South Park's classic episodes, along with episodes from newer seasons. An unfortunate side effect of South Park on HBO Max was that the seasons were shortened to just six episodes, with specials airing on Paramount+ picking up the slack. Despite these headaches, many HBO Max subscribers have enjoyed streaming South Park, and they will be sad to know that if they want to continue doing so, they will need to sign up for Paramount+.

When is South Park Leaving HBO Max?
South Park's last day on HBO Max is August 5, marking the end of an era that started in 2020. After that, the show will only be available for streaming on Paramount+, where subscribers can watch older seasons along with brand-new episodes the day after they air. With Paramount+ also having exclusive rights to the various South Park specials that have been released over the last five years, it will give fans of the franchise a way to stream the show in almost its entirety. In the long run, it seems Paramount+ will be a better option for South Park fans, but it's understandable that some HBO Max subscribers may be annoyed about this change.
South Park recently premiered its 27th season with a critically-acclaimed episode aimed at Donald Trump. The next episode seems to be tackling the ICE raids that have been happening all over the country, along with MAGA influencers like Charlie Kirk. The Donald Trump episode drummed up more interest in the show than has been seen in quite some time, and even prompted a statement from the White House. Paramount+ subscribers can watch the controversial episode now and can look forward to a full 10-episode season in the weeks ahead.
New episodes of South Park will air on Wednesdays on Comedy Central, but can be found the next day on Paramount+. Paramount paid $1.5 billion for South Park streaming rights, and considering how big the show still is, it's likely that the company will get its money's worth.
