Sonic X Shadow Generations ranks your progress through each of its stages, giving you a grade when you reach the goal ring or goal plate. Higher ranks require you to finish stages faster and more efficiently, with Sonic Generations' stages also requiring you to clear the stage without losing a single life to earn the highest possible grade. The highest possible rank is the S-Rank.

To earn an S-Rank in Sonic X Shadow Generations you'll need to tear through the level at high speed, showing good reflexes and good platforming to take a quick and efficient route to the goal. This guide will discuss how to get an S-Rank in each of the game's stories and offer advice on how to reach them most effectively.

Earning an S-Rank in Shadow Generations is a little easier than in Sonic Generations since it doesn't require you to clear the entire stage without dying. The only requirement is to reach the end of the stage and touch the goal ring as quickly as possible. Generally, this means you'll want to stick to paths and routes that are higher up, despite them being harder to reach, since these paths tend to be faster than the lower paths on any given stage.

Making good use of Shadow's Chaos Control and Doom Powers to freeze the timer and navigate the stage more effectively will make earning an S-Rank far easier. When you see them, it's also worth using green Chaos Control paths to speed across sections of the stage at high speed.

Time is frozen whenever Chaos Control is in use, and these paths are way faster to navigate than any others. Shadow can earn a separate rank for each stage based on whether Doom Wing is enabled for that run through the stage or not, since Doom Wing makes many sections of a stage much quicker by allowing you to fly over them or through shortcuts that would be otherwise inaccessible.

How to Get an S-Rank in Sonic Generations

Sonic racing through Rooftop Run and City Escape

Both Sonics have a slightly harder time getting S-Ranks when compared to Shadow, since they automatically forfeit their S-Rank if they die at any point during a stage. This means that you'll need to be fast and precise with your platforming, without getting reckless or making any lethal mistakes. As with Shadow's stages, Sonic's stages tend to have faster routes higher up, so taking the high path whenever possible will help him to get to the end more quickly.

Sonic lacks Chaos Control but is able to equip an assortment of skills that modify his abilities. Athleticism is noteworthy as it will help him move uphill and through water without losing as much speed. Power Brake will let him stop much faster even when moving at top speed, helping him to handle precise platforming and making it harder to skid off the edge of a cliff.
