A really talented Minecraft fan has created an impressive playable version of Sonic the Hedgehog without using mods. Minecraft is one of the leading sandbox games, the genre that has a strong feature of offering players the freedom to play in their own way and pace.

The gameplay possibilities in Minecraft are immense thanks to the availability of tools and the imagination of the players. One can go a quieter route by creating bases with dirt blocks and wood, collecting resources, and having the luck of finding diamonds in Minecraft that are rarely seen. Other players go further into the survival adventure to have a more hardcore and exciting experience. For players who are creative and like to create things, there is also room in Minecraft. Mojang's game works as a literal blank canvas to paint and give different colors.

User C1OUS3R shared on Reddit a video showing the recreation of the Green Hill Zone that fans got to know in 1991's Sonic the Hedgehog for Sega Genesis. Green Hill is one of the most iconic platform stages in video games, and on his YouTube channel C1OUS3R explains and shows the recreation process. Divided into several parts, the user makes things like 3D modeling Sonic and his enemies, and their insertion into Minecraft. The user even reproduced mechanics like the collapsing platforms, and the giant loop-de-loop, one of the most famous elements of the Sonic franchise.

C1OUS3R's post on the Minecraftbuilds subreddit attracted more than 900 upvotes and several comments. In response to one user, C1OUS3R revealed that it took two weeks to complete the project, which didn't even leave out the Green Hill Zone theme music. At the end of the YouTube video, C1OUS3R got some YouTubers together to play his version of Sonic, and the reactions were unanimous. Not only were they very excited, but they were all impressed with the result. Previously C1OUS3R used the same process to create playable Super Mario Bros. In Minecraft, reproducing the look and mechanics of another classic platformer within Mojang's game.

The playable Minecraft version of the Green Hill Zone captivates by bringing together the nostalgia of the first Sonic with the charisma of Minecraft. The project also impresses because although it does not use mods, it invests in a detailed and careful step-by-step. For a game that had a simple beginning, it is not hard to see how Minecraft has grown to become one of the most successful indie games. Mojang's game not only offers immense space to create but has learned to balance between being simple and elaborate at the same time.

Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and legacy platforms.
