- There will likely be updates for Sonic X Shadows Generations and the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film, as well as possible reveals for new projects.
The Sonic the Hedgehog company Sega has revealed that an all-new Sonic Central livestream is set for tomorrow, September 24. Having started in 2021, Sega's Sonic Central presentations have been known to focus on celebrating the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, as well as giving new looks at upcoming projects and events happening in the near future.
It's already been a big year for fans of the Blue Blur, and it's only about to get bigger. The TV series centered around Sonic's echidna pal Knuckles, starring Idris Elba in the role, was released earlier this year to solid reception. The TV series is connected to the Sonic the Hedgehog film series, of which its third installment, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, is slated to hit the big screen in December, with Keanu Reeves breathing life into fan-favorite antagonist Shadow the Hedgehog. As far as video games go, Sonic X Shadows Generations pairs a remastered Sonic Generations with a new Shadow story campaign and is set to release in October.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Knuckles Isn't Required Viewing, and That's a Good Thing
As the third Sonic movie draws hype, it seems more and more like the Echidna's spinoff was the fun side adventure it promised.
Out of nowhere, Sega let fans know to expect the return of its Sonic Central livestream tomorrow, September 24. This stream will be the fourth annual Sonic Central, which promises sneak peeks at Sonic the Hedgehog projects and events coming in 2025. Fans can tune in at 12 PM Eastern on the Sonic YouTube and Twitch channels.
Sonic Central 2024 Going Live September 24
While Sega's tweet mentioned 2025, it's likely that Sonic fans may be able to expect to see another sneak peek at the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film coming this year. It's also possible that Sega will take this opportunity to remind fans of Sonic X Shadows Generations, due out in a month. Aside from Sonic Rumble, a mobile battle royale experience aiming to come out sometime this winter, nothing concrete is known about what Sega may have in store for Sonic fans in 2025. Whether it'll announce a second season of Knuckles, or a different spinoff project focused on another character entirely is unknown. While unconfirmed, rumors of a Sonic Heroes remake are still alive and well; perhaps it'll be officially confirmed during tomorrow's Sonic Central stream.
Whichever exciting Sonic the Hedgehog projects get announced for 2025, Sonic fans still have a lot going on this year, as Sonic X Shadow Generations hits Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC on October 22, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 brings Shadow to the big screen on December 20. In other Sega news, RGG Studio just recently unveiled Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, a Goro Majima spinoff game coming on February 28, 2025. As for Sega's other hugely popular RPG franchise, rumors continue to swirl about Persona 6 potentially landing sometime next year.
Sonic the Hedgehog is a prolific game franchise that started life on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. Covering both 2D and 3D iterations through the generations, Sonic is known for speedy movements and interesting platforming mechanics.
