More gameplay footage of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has been shared online, providing another glimpse at the upcoming kart racer. The Sonic franchise is all about speed, so it was only a matter of time before another racing game was announced starring the Blue Blur and his equally colorful costars. Following The Game Awards 2024 announcement back in December, a longer Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds trailer was later shown off during the PlayStation State of Play livestream on February 12.

The official Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Twitter account recently shared a brief gameplay clip online, consisting of two scenarios that players might race through in the game. The first sees Sonic performing impressive aerial tricks and collecting rings while speeding through a water course in his transformed blue racecar. Meanwhile, his ever-trusty sidekick Tails converts his own vehicle into a jet plane mode to fly above Prison Island, maintaining his speed and altitude by passing through glowing boost rings.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Shows Off Tricks, Flying Gameplay

Previous Sonic Racing: CrossWorld rumors have hinted that the game will have a large assortment of playable characters and courses to race across, with a base launch roster of 23 classic Sonic the Hedgehog characters, 24 “main” tracks, and 15 “CrossWorlds” that can be accessed through the aforementioned portals. It is said that even more characters will be introduced in future DLC, with Sega promising that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will have the largest roster for a Sonic racer yet.

Fans looking to blast off as Sonic and company will get an early chance to do so on February 21, when Sega will begin a Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds network test for PS5 players. The game’s full release date hasn’t been confirmed aside from a 2025 launch window, so gamers will have to stay posted for more information and gameplay footage of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds as Sonic Team continues to shed light on its upcoming high-speed, multiverse-spanning extravaganza.
