Sega has just shared some screenshots of Sonic X Shadow Generations version of the Kingdom Valley stage from Sonic ‘06. An updated remaster of the 2012 anniversary title Sonic Generations was announced back in January, complete with an added campaign centered around Shadow the Hedgehog. Sonic X Shadow Generations is part of 2024’s Year of Shadow promotional campaign, which features special events and content celebrating Sonic’s famous arch-rival in the build-up to his big-screen debut in this year’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

As reported by Sonic Stadium, recently released screenshots on the offical Sega Japan website are giving fans a look at another old stage that will return in Sonic X Shadow Generations: Kingdom Valley from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). In the ill-remembered Sonic ’06, Kingdom Valley was the ruins of the old Soleanna royal palace, which was abandoned following the disastrous Solaris Project. All three of Sonic 06’s playable protagonists (Sonic, Shadow, and Silver) had levels set there, and Sonic X Shadow Generations’ latest screenshots show Shadow riding a giant eagle on his way through the old castle grounds.

The most recent wave of Sonic X Shadow Generations screenshots also shows off the Sonic Adventure-inspired Modern Sonic Legacy Skin, which will be available as a pre-order bonus. This lower-polygon skin features Sonic as he looked on the Sega Dreamcast back in 1999, complete with the clear blue Crystal Ring around his wrist and energy-infused Light Speed Shoes that enabled the Blue Blur to perform his Light Speed Dash move on any path of Rings. In Sonic X Shadow Generations, the Legacy Skin can be seen running through the classic Green Hill Zone.

Just like the original Sonic Generations, the updated Sonic X Shadow Generations looks to celebrate the history of Sega’s most iconic mascot by letting gamers run through classic levels, including a few from Shadow’s most noted playable appearances. The ancient Kingdom Valley is now joining Crisis City in representing Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), a game that was home to some of Shadow’s most noteworthy moments in addition to a few of Sonic’s strangest ones.
