This article contains spoilers from Solo Leveling.
Solo Leveling has shot up in popularity ever since the first season of its anime dropped. While the manhwa was already a favorite of many before the anime, as was the light novel, the adaptation by A-1 Pictures took things to the next level. At this point, it can be said that Solo Leveling is up there with the most popular anime series of the previous decade, and it doesn't seem to be showing any signs of stopping.
It's Time To Say Goodbye To Solo Leveling's Protagonist Forever
Solo Leveling is saying goodbye to its beloved protagonist as the story takes a different focus.
In fact, despite the Solo Leveling light novel having ended long ago, it seems that the protagonist of the series, Sung Jinwoo, who is popular all over the world, is looking to make a return. Recently, Chugong himself came out and officially confirmed to the fans that Solo Leveling may well continue, and that can only mean Sung Jinwoo will return as well. Chugong also confirmed that Solo Leveling has multiple universes, and that he doesn't consider Solo Leveling Ragnarok a direct sequel to the story.
Solo Leveling Author Confirms Jinwoo's Potential Return
Sung Jinwoo's Story Will Likely Continue
- Sung Suho Doesn't Exist In The Chugong Universe
- Jinwoo Will Be The Main Protagonist
Chugong, Solo Leveling's original author, hasn't spoken much of the sequel series, Solo Leveling Ragnarok, until recently. However, earlier this month, he officially confirmed that he doesn't consider Solo Leveling Ragnarok to be an official direct sequel to the story. This makes sense, given that Ragnarok isn't written by him and Solo Leveling is a world he created himself. This doesn't necessarily mean that Solo Leveling Ragnarok isn't canon. Chugong went on to confirm that Ragnarok is very well a part of the Solo Leveling universe, but only one of the many possible scenarios. Here's what Chugong had to say:
“Ragnarok was a spin-off created for fanservice. I was curious to see how another author would write Solo Leveling. This story is part of the Solo Leveling universe, but it isn’t a direct continuation of the main plot. It’s more like one of many possible scenarios—similar to Marvel’s parallel universes. And of course, I’m also considering the possibility of writing a sequel myself.” — Chugong
Solo Leveling's Best Episode Has Finally Been Dethroned
Solo Leveling season 2 was big, but this iconic shonen series has dethroned its best episode.
The most important thing that Chugong mentioned in his interview was that he is considering the possibility of writing a Solo Leveling sequel himself. Since he already confirmed to the fans that Solo Leveling Ragnarok is set in an alternate universe and not his own, this means Sung Suho doesn't exist there. It also means that Sung Jinwoo will most likely continue as the protagonist of the Solo Leveling franchise if Solo Leveling does get a sequel, which seems very likely.
I use the System, and the System uses me. — Sung Jinwoo, Solo Leveling
Solo Leveling's Popularity Means A Sequel Is Likely
Fans Want To See More Of Sung Jinwoo
Fans might wonder why Solo Leveling would get a sequel, but the answer is quite simple. The popularity of the franchise is at its peak. Solo Leveling is loved around the globe at the moment and fans want to see more of it. It is somewhat similar to how Dragon Ball is still continuing in certain ways decades after the original story concluded. The time to take advantage of Solo Leveling's popularity is now, and Chugong knows that as well.
Whether the sequel will be good or not is a different question entirely, but based on the popularity of the franchise, it seems that Solo Leveling will most likely get a new series very soon. Fans can only hope that Chugong delivers a story as good as Ragnarok, if not better. Of course, either way, an anime adaptation of the said potential sequel would take time.
Solo Leveling has two seasons out right now, one with 12 episodes, and the other with 13, for a combined episode count of 25 episodes available to watch right now. The series can be streamed on Crunchyroll for fans to enjoy while awaiting any more news concerning the third season. For fans who can’t wait for season 3 to come out, checking out the Manhwa might be a great option.
