This article contains spoilers for Solo Leveling and Solo Leveling: Ragnarok

Solo Leveling has become a global phenomenon, thanks to the absolutely huge success it achieved after the anime adaptation was announced. Fans of the anime adaptation love Sung Jinwoo, the main character of the Solo Leveling series. Everything about him has been spectacular so far, but most of all, it's his aura that fans are in love with. That said, what some anime-only fans don’t know is that Jinwoo isn’t the only protagonist that Solo Leveling has. Indeed, Solo Leveling has a sequel, called Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, which features a whole different protagonist, Sung Suho, the son of Sung Jinwoo and Cha Hae-In. Suho might be from a sequel series, but many fans actually prefer him to Jinwoo due to his better character development, and better personality.

Sung Suho Is The Better Protagonist

  • Suho Doesn’t Just Rely On Hype Moments

Sung Jinwoo has become a very popular anime main character, especially after the international success of the anime series, Solo Leveling. Every anime fan knows of Sung Jinwoo, and a testament to their popularity is the fact that his story swept many awards at the Crunchyroll Awards of 2025. Jinwoo was even awarded the title of best main character, which is no small achievement, especially when considering who he was up against.

One absolutely cannot deny Jinwoo’s popularity, but the truth is, he isn’t even the best protagonist Solo Leveling has to offer. Most fans who have read both Solo Leveling web novels admit that his own son, Sung Suho, is the protagonist of Solo Leveling, and that he has undergone far better character development.

Sung Suho is indeed better than Jinwoo, and he fixes many of the issues people had with his father. Suho’s personality is far more relatable. He’s not just a nonchalant protagonist who only relies on hype moments and fights to get people invested. Sung Suho actually feels like a normal person, builds actual meaningful relationships, relies on his team, faces struggles, and grows as a person.

While some people might still prefer Jinwoo, one thing that absolutely cannot be denied is that Suho is the better-written character overall, and when Solo Leveling Ragnarok does get its own anime adaptation, which is inevitable, fans will surely come to love him.

Sung Suho is Preferred By Many, But His Adventure Has Ended

  • Ragnarok Isn’t Considered A Direct Continuation of Solo Leveling
  • If a New Sequel Takes Place, Suho Will Likely Be Erased

Sung Suho enjoyed some great adventures in his own story, but it recently wrapped up with the conclusion of the Solo Leveling: Ragnarok web novel. Fans still have the manhwa to look forward to, and maybe someday, even an anime adaptation, but when it comes to new original stories for Suho, fans won't get any more content.

Sung Suho wasn’t created by the original Solo Leveling creator Chugong. Instead, Suho is the work of Daul, the writer of Ragnarok. While Ragnarok is considered canon by Chugong, he stated that it’s set in an alternative universe. Chugong is even considering a new sequel, and if it does happen, Sung Suho will probably not be included since he isn't from the Chugong Universe anyway. Sung Suho will definitely not exist in Solo Leveling’s original universe, and he could very well be fully cut out of any future stories.

“Ragnarok was a spin-off created for fanservice. I was curious to see how another author would write Solo Leveling. This story is part of the Solo Leveling universe, but it isn’t a direct continuation of the main plot. It’s more like one of many possible scenarios — similar to Marvel’s parallel universes. And of course, I’m also considering the possibility of writing a sequel myself.” — Chugong

Solo Leveling has two seasons out right now, one with 12 episodes, and the other with 13, for a combined episode count of 25 episodes available to watch right now. The series can be streamed on Crunchyroll for fans to enjoy while awaiting any more news concerning the third season. For fans who can’t wait for season 3 to come out, checking out the Manhwa might be a great option.
