Solo Leveling is an anime based on the popular manga that follows the story of Sung Jin-Woo, a Hunter, and his ability to level up his stats (unlike other Hunters). Throughout the series, he is able to completely change from an E-Rank to above those in the S-Rank as he takes on more powerful and intimidating enemies.

Solo Leveling Season 2: Who Is Beru? The Ant King, Explained

Beru, the Ant King, was introduced in the latest episode of Solo Leveling Season 2. Here's all you need to know about the new Shadow of Jinwoo.

1

Towards the end of Season 2 of Solo Leveling, the Hunters are faced with a new challenge: defeat the army of ants and the Ant King that currently reside on Jeju Island. As this is the fourth Jeju Island raid, only the best of the best Hunters are able to participate. But, which characters possess abilities unlike any other?

Choi Jong-In

S-Rank Hunter

  • Abilities: Flame Spear, Flame Prison, Flame Dragon
  • Affiliation: Hunters Guild

As the Guild Master of the White Tiger Guild, it's only natural that Choi Jong-In joins the group in the raid on Jeju Island. He is the most powerful Mage-type in all of Korea, and can utilize his fire magic to take out an enemy (or even a group of enemies) in just one hit. Along with his combat skills, he has significant durability, which is especially shown in the Jeju Island Arc when the Ant King attacks him directly on the chest, to which he survived.

However, despite his many impressive abilities, he still falls behind his peers by quite a large proportion, especially when faced with melee combat. Even though he attempted to aid his teammates against the Ant King, he was unable to significantly damage the towering enemy, and eventually had to retreat to save his own life. Despite being the strongest Mage in Korea, he had to let the rest of his team take the reins.

Baek Yoon-Ho

S-Rank Hunter

  • Abilities: Transformation, Eyes of the Beast
  • Affiliation: White Tiger Guild

Baek Yoon-Ho plays the role of an S-Rank Fighter, and functions as the main physical tank of the group. As a tank in Solo Leveling, he was able to easily distract the enemies from weaker team members and protect them from taking significant damage. Baek Yoon-Ho also has a Beast Form, which allows him to increase his stats significantly, especially his strength and endurance.

Solo Leveling: How Jin-Woo Saved Cha Hae-In on Jeju Island, Explained

Sung Jin-Woo saves Cha Hae-In's life on Jeju Island in an incredibly surprising way; no one sees it coming.

Though Baek Yoon-Ho is certainly useful to the team of Hunters and is able to buy them extra time, he, like Choi Jong-In, is still no match for the Ant King. He heavily lacks speed due to being a Tank, and was quickly left unconscious throughout the majority of the battle. Although he is a powerful Hunter, he still cannot compare to some of his comrades and massively destructive enemies.

Goto Ryuji

Japan's Strongest S-Rank Hunter

  • Abilities: Extreme Strength, Speed, and Reflexes
  • Affiliation: Draw Sword Guild

Goto Ryuji was among the top S-Rank Hunters in Japan, and served as the Guild Master of the Draw Sword Guild. He was the leader of the Hunters within his country, and was even considered significantly stronger than all the S-Rank Hunters in Korea. His abilities included significantly enhanced strength, as well as speed, allowing him to easily get a hit on Jin-Woo (despite losing the battle later).

Not only is Goto Ryuji quickly defeated by Jinwoo in battle, but he also proves to be no match for Beru, the Ant King. Though he is able to initially avoid the Ant King's first attack, he is defeated by him quickly after with only one shot. After his death, the rest of the team was unsure how to find an alternative strategy.

Cha Hae-In

Korea's Strongest S-Rank Hunter

  • Abilities: Sword Dance, Sword of Light, Quake of Provocation
  • Affiliation: Hunters Guild

Cha Hae-In serves as the Vice-Guild Master of the Hunters Guild, a title which she very clearly deserves. While training for the Jeju Island raid, she was able to easily defeat some of the Japanese S-Rank Hunters, while the rest of her Korean teammates struggled. She has many different abilities that other Hunters lack, including significant speed, strength, and sword mastery.

Solo Leveling: Jinwoo's Shadow Grades, Explained
8 Most Brutal Fights In Solo Leveling, Ranked

The fights in Solo Leveling are spectacles that must be seen to be believed, but they can also be very brutal, especially in the case of these fights.

1

Though she is one of the few Hunters that was able to react and avoid some of the Ant King's attacks, she still didn't have enough strength to significantly damage the powerful boss. Due to this, she suffered extreme injuries, and had to give up against the Ant King. As one of the most powerful S-Rank Hunters of all, the fact that even she was unable to attack the Ant King shows just how significant the foe was.

Beru (Ant King)

Magic Beast

  • Abilities: Gluttony, Flight, Size Manipulation, Paralysis Poison, Ice Magic, etc.
  • Affiliation: Ant Queen, Ant Colony on Jeju Island

As the main boss of the Jeju Island S-Rank Gate, the Ant King is obviously at the top of this list, having defeated more than eight S-Rank Hunters with ease. This boss has a multitude of rare abilities, including size manipulation, flight, ice magic, and much more. The Ant King single-handedly took control of Jeju Island, destroying all the inhabitants, and later destroyed one of the most powerful S-Rank Hunters in Japan, Goto Ryuji, in only two hits.

As the Ant King tore through the vast majority of Japan and Korea's S-Rank Hunters, there was one person that remained standing: Sung Jin-Woo. The Ant King is able to poison Jin-Woo, as well as dodge a multitude of his attacks, but is soon defeated and killed by the special Hunter. As the most powerful boss shown in the anime, this goes to show just how significant Jin-Woo's strength is.

Sung Jin-Woo

Above S-Rank Hunter

  • Abilities: Stealth, Bloodlust, Quicksilver, Mutilation, Dragon's Fear, etc.
  • Affiliation: Ahjin Guild

Sung Jin-Woo's powers are completely unmatched. No matter the boss or fellow Hunter, no one has a chance against him. He possesses skills far beyond an S-Rank Hunter, including unmatched strength, speed, durability, and much more. As a Player of the System in Solo Leveling, he is also able to significantly increase his stats as much as he wants, unlike other Hunters who usually stay in the same Rank Class.

Sung Jin-Woo is essentially invincible, able to quickly recover in battles and dodge a majority of attacks from opponents. Especially at the end of his battle against the Ant King, he utilizes his ability, Mutilation, to unleash a flurry of intense slashes on the boss, defeating it once and for all. This level of power shocks all of his fellow teammates, and causes all the other ant enemies to swiftly flee. This is why he is known as the second Shadow Monarch.
