Solo Leveling never has to use empty spectacle to gain hype. The interesting aspect of the rise of Sung Jinwoo was that each move forward was won by pain, sacrifice, and decisions that were more and more difficult to make. In contrast to most power-fantasy heroes, the development of Jinwoo never went without repercussions, and each new power changed the state of the world around him. As Season 2 concluded, it was clear to the audience that it was no longer about survival; it was about dominance, aura farming, and the price of being at the top all alone.

According to the pace of adaptation and the storylines that have already been covered, there is a high probability that Season 3 will continue through the International Guild Conference Arc, leading to the much-awaited confrontation between Jinwoo and Thomas Andre. That direction would enable the anime to demonstrate some of the most recognizable moments from the manhwa.

Monarch of Fangs, Ant King, Hwang Dongsoo
Solo Leveling: The Best Villains, Ranked

The Solo Leveling manhwa is full of complex, fascinating villains. These are the best that Sung Jinwoo finds himself up against.

Sung Jinwoo vs. Hwang Dongsoo

The fact that Hwang Dongsoo returns is one of the first instances when Jinwoo is challenged to deal with vengeance not based on the idea of survival, but on personal obsession. Dongsoo, being motivated by the murder of his brother Hwang Dongsuk, functions entirely beyond the organization of Korean hunters, with his S-ranking as a U.S. Affiliate giving him the power to operate as he pleases. His quest to find Jinwoo intensifies to threatening and outright brutality, reaching a point of no longer being able to restrain him.

What is critical to this moment is the decisive nature with which Jinwoo manages it. Even his shadows were terrified by his anger, which Hwang assumes is because of him, but no, the shadow was frozen in fear because he knew his master was furious and there would be blood. No protracted dialogue, no ethical indecisiveness, and no mercy-taking. He instantly defeats Hwang with one blow. Just as he was about to kill him, Hwang was momentarily saved by Thomas. The incident highlights a change in how Jinwoo thinks; power is used with coldness and efficiency, and not with emotion.

Cha Hae-In and Beru's Rematch

Cha vs beru

The rematch between Cha Hae-In and Beru is the only instance in which the shadow army of Jinwoo fights head-on with the ego of another top-level hunter. This conflict is different from their initial meeting when the Jeju Island Raid took place because they meet again, and Beru is now a shadow of Jinwoo, which is a very essential change from the previous conflict. Cha does not have to deal with an uncontrollable monster anymore, but with a weapon that Jinwoo sharpened and kept under control.

This scene is extraordinary since it brings to the fore development on both fronts. The determination of Cha as the most powerful female hunter in Korea is challenged against an opponent she could previously not kill, and the excessive loyalty and holding of Beru demonstrate how the command of Jinwoo has grown. It is not merely a rematch, but it is also a reflection of how unconditional power transforms the essence of power.

Jinwoo Saving Jinah

Jinwoo Saving Jinah

Jinwoo’s sister Jinah is caught inside a dungeon break at her school when monsters begin attacking civilians. Jinwoo immediately senses the danger and uses Shadow Exchange to arrive at the scene without delay. What is left behind is a brother who has to face the only weakness that can never be completely destroyed by power. Jinwoo’s immediate arrival is proof and leaves no doubt that anyone who threatens his family has already sealed their fate.

As beautiful and touching as this moment is, it also reminds viewers why Jinwoo still has to deal with everything all by himself. Even though he goes beyond human boundaries, his reasons are excruciatingly human. No matter how strong he gets, his family is still his biggest weakness. The difference between his almost divine strength and his yet so human fear of losing strengthens the idea that the core of Jinwoo, though everything might have changed, remains the same.

8 Most Brutal Fights In Solo Leveling, Ranked

The fights in Solo Leveling are spectacles that must be seen to be believed, but they can also be very brutal, especially in the case of these fights.

Double Dungeon Arc and The Architect Reveal

The fight with the Architect eventually pulls the veil over the system, which predates the whole journey of Jinwoo so far. The Architect is no longer an abstract figure in the backdrop of missions and penalties, standing out as an agency, a manipulator who creates the illusion of a free choice on behalf of Jinwoo. The Architect explains that Jinwoo was selected as a vessel to inherit the power of the Shadow Monarch and that every quest, penalty, and battle was designed to shape him into a suitable successor.

What makes this fight memorable is the response of Jinwoo, who did not give in but turned it down. He does not want to be possessed, manipulated, or characterized by the very system that produced him. This is not only a physical fight but an ideological one. Jinwoo declares his independence, and this is the first time his strength is not lent out to him, but it is his own.

Thomas Andre vs. Sung Jinwoo

Thomas Andre vs. Sung Jinwoo

Throughout the International Guild Conference Arc, the world's strongest National Level Hunter, Thomas Andre, makes an appearance in the midst of the tension building up after Hwang Dongsoo assaults Yoo Jinho. Thomas called Hwang to advise him to avoid provoking Jinwoo, but Hwang disregarded the message and abducted Jinho. Jinwoo has already overpowered Hwang by the time Thomas follows Hwang. Thomas then requests Jinwoo to leave Hwang alone, promising to forget that this all ever happened should Jinwoo accept. The confrontation becomes worse when Jinwoo declines.

Thomas goes on the offensive, even switching on his Reinforcement power to get his own strength to the maximum, but Jinwoo stands firm. The battle is relatively brief and violent: Jinwoo strikes decisive hits, making Thomas lose even his superhuman strength. Thomas goes to the extreme, and eventually, he is beaten by the strength of Jinwoo, and he finds himself being disarmed and almost dead. The following day, Thomas shows up in the conference hall having recovered, and inquires of Jinwoo why he did not kill him. Jinwoo points out that Thomas himself had not committed an atrocity that would warrant death. Thomas allows this, honors the code of Jinwoo, and even later asks him to have dinner with him, an incident that alters their relationship of hostility into a new relationship of mutual respect.

Shadow Monarch Ashborn's Reveal

Ashborn Shadow Monarch

In the Double Dungeon Arc, Jinwoo becomes level 100 and is called back into the Double Dungeon by Kandiaru, also known as the Architect of the System, who wants to use Jinwoo as a vessel for the original Shadow Monarch, Ashborn. It was planned that Ashborn would assume control of the body of Jinwoo once he attained the required strength and would be a puppet of the ancient cosmic powers. But Ashborn intends otherwise. Instead of taking over the body of Jinwoo, he decides to pass over his own powers to Jinwoo to ensure that he leaves a successor to the position of Shadow Monarch.

Ashborn betrays Kandiaru, sealing him out of the System and presenting Jinwoo with his Black Heart, which grants and enhances his mana greatly, and is a symbol of his rising to be a real Monarch. The dismay and anger of Kandiaru to be deceived, having thought of taking control of what Ashborn left behind him in the form of Jinwoo, is his undoing, as the Architect is rendered helpless and is eventually killed by Jinwoo. This incident alters all that Jinwoo has become: No longer is he a powerful hunter who is living by borrowed powers, but the heir to one of the most frightening powers in Solo Leveling.
