This article contains spoilers from the Solo Leveling manhwa.
In the world of Solo Leveling, Sung Jin-Woo is known as a high-class necromancer who has the power and ability to command the undead. Other than Jin-Woo, fans have little to no information about other hunters or beings who practice necromancy in Solo Leveling. Instead, there are mages who can summon magical beasts for protection and combat purposes.
However, fans will be introduced to another powerful necromancer with the same power and command over the undead in Solo Leveling Season 3. This necromancer knows about Sung Jin-Woo's existence, as if he is updated about his impressive displays of power. Who is this powerful necromancer? Let’s find out.
Solo Leveling: Would There Be a Third Shadow Monarch?
After Ashborn and Sung Jin-Woo, will there be a third character who inherits the Shadow Monarch’s power?
Jin-Woo Is the Strongest Necromancer in Solo Leveling
Jin-Woo Is a High-Class Necromancer
- Jin-Woo originally wanted to be an Assassin-class hunter.
- Jin-Woo's necromancer class evolved to the Shadow Monarch real quick.
Many fans believe that necromancy is one of the weakest magic types in anime, and Sung Jin-Woo once had the same belief before he accepted his new class. He was expecting to receive the Assassin class, as his fighting style relied heavily on agility, stealth, and precision strikes. Controlling the dead didn’t match Jin-Woo's image and fighting style at all, but the System had other plans for him.
After accepting the Necromancer class, Jin-Woo immediately unlocked the hidden class, Shadow Monarch, which marked a new era for mankind’s weakest E-rank hunter. Jin-Woo quickly mastered this newfound power, turning what was once thought to be a weak magic type into a force that could rival the power of Monarchs and Rulers alike. From that moment on, fans knew that Jin-Woo's rise was nothing short of legendary.
With the power and ability to command the undead, Sung Jin-Woo became the strongest hunter in Korea in just a short amount of time. His job-exclusive skills, like Shadow Extraction and Shadow Exchange, became instrumental in his rise to power, allowing him to raise an army of elite shadows with unmatched loyalty and mobility across any battlefield. And the best part is that the more levels Jin-Woo reaches, the stronger his shadow army also grows.
The Arch Lich Is a Powerful Necromancer in Solo Leveling
The Arch Lich Worships Sung Jin-Woo
Unlike other classes, such as healers, tanks, or assassins, in Solo Leveling, there’s little to no information about other necromancers in the story. The only necromancer who truly stands out in Solo Leveling is Sung Jin-Woo himself. However, Solo Leveling Season 3 will welcome another powerful necromancer who respects Jin-Woo more than anyone else, and that is the boss of the Busan Gate, the Arch Lich.
The Arch Lich is a dangerous necromancer who appears before the Knights Guild inside the Busan Gate in Solo Leveling Chapter 120. It is an undead monster that treats Jin-Woo like a king, much like how Beru worships his master. The only difference is that the Arch Lich is not serving Jin-Woo, with Beru mocking it and its army of undead monsters as the King’s unselected forces.
We were chosen by the King and you were not.—Beru to the Arch Lich
According to the guild master of the Knights Guild, Park Jong-Soo, the Arch Lich is highly dangerous, as it was able to wipe out the Gold Dragon Guild, one of the major Chinese guilds, long ago. If it weren’t for Liu Zhigang, it could have caused more destruction, considering a strike squad consisting of A-rank hunters wouldn’t be a match for its power. In other words, a strike squad with an S-rank hunter on board is needed to take down the Arch Lich.
Beru Will Defeat the Arch Lich
Beru Is Still Stronger Than the Arch Lich
While the Arch Lich has an army of undead with him, from twin-headed ogres and death knights to vampires, Beru saw them as nothing more than nuisances to Sung Jin-Woo and the shadow army. With his usual arrogance, Beru was quick to mock the Arch Lich’s forces, provoking them with his sharp tongue and intimidating presence. Of course, Beru has the power to back his words, and it didn’t take long for him to prove it.
With just a single punch, Beru effortlessly defeated the Arch Lich, despite the undead monster’s terrifying reputation and power. It couldn’t even withstand a single strike from Beru, much to the surprise of the Knight Guild hunters. Just like that, Beru completed his mission without breaking a sweat, leaving behind only silence and disbelief in his wake. At the end of the day, the Arch Lich was nothing more than another fallen foe before the might of Jin-Woo's shadow army.
