Solo Leveling blew up immediately after the release of its amazing anime adaptation. Solo Leveling’s anime is, however, not the original source. Most fans of the series are well aware of the fact that Solo Leveling is a web novel written by Chugong, a South Korean writer. This webnovel was then adapted into a manhwa, which became the main inspiration for the anime.

This successor is an official and canon sequel series, known as Solo Leveling Ragnarok. Solo Leveling: Ragnarok already has a completed web novel, but what most fans are really interested in is the Manhwa. Its manhwa was on hiatus, but it recently marked its big return, and fans also got to see the continuation of the English release as well. With each passing chapter, Solo Leveling Ragnarok continues to prove to the fans that it is the true successor of Chugong’s original work.

Solo Leveling Ragnarok Is Canon, But Set In A Different Timeline Separate From The Original

Solo Leveling Ragnarok Is Canon

A lot of new fans want to check out Solo Leveling Ragnarok, but given that the story is written by a different author, the question of the canonicity of the story often comes into question. In short, the answer to whether Ragnarok is canon is both yes and no.

Solo Leveling Ragnarok is written by a different creator. Instead of Chugong, it’s Daul who created the story. This might lead some to believe that it is non-canon, but Chugong has commented on the matter and clarified this issue. Chugong said that Ragnarok is fan service, but still canon. It is canon to the Solo Leveling Universe, but it’s in its own timeline, and doesn’t affect the events of his original story.

“Ragnarok was a spin-off created for fan service. I was curious to see how another author would write Solo Leveling. This story is part of the Solo Leveling universe, but it isn’t a direct continuation of the main plot. It’s more like one of many possible scenarios — similar to Marvel’s parallel universes.

And of course, I’m also considering the possibility of writing a sequel myself.” — Chugong

In other words, Ragnarok is the true canon of Solo Leveling at the moment. But, it isn't exactly canon to Chugong's own universe. It is set in a different universe, and could starkly differ from Chugong's version of the story. Perhaps, fans will see a different sequel written by Chugong at some point later down the line as well. Until Chugong himself creates a new story, this is the only sequel fans have.

Solo Leveling has two seasons out right now, one with 12 episodes, and the other with 13, for a combined episode count of 25 episodes available to watch right now. The series can be streamed on Crunchyroll for fans to enjoy while awaiting any more news concerning the third season. There have been no major announcements about a third season so far. Fans can get more Solo Leveling content via the Manhwa.
