Jeju Island Arc is Rated as the Best Arc in the Series By Fans

Fans Loved Jinwoo's Rescue Act

  • Webtoon: Chapters 90 to 107

The Jeju Island arc revolves around the joint efforts of the Korean and Japanese administrations to deal with the threat posed by the evolving ants on the forsaken island. The best hunters from both countries are selected to fight and kill Ant Queen so that the magic beasts die out within a year. But when things take a sinister turn, Sung Jinwoo comes to the rescue and saves the day by defeating Ant King.

Solo Leveling: Why Can't Jin-Woo Name All of His Shadows?

Jin-Woo can rename his elite shadows, but why can’t he do the same with the rest of his soldiers in the army?

The arc perfectly captures the risk, horror, and triumph of a high-stakes raid. Each incident is masterfully planned, setting the stage for an epic clash between Sung Jinwoo and Ant King. The final fight is arguably the best so far in the anime, so it should not come as a surprise that fans rate Jeju Island Raid as the best arc of the series.

Interestingly, fans who have read the manhwa only also rate Jeju Island quite highly. A noteworthy reason mentioned by one fan is that Jinwoo's strength by international standards was largely unknown by this point. While he had surpassed most Korean hunters, the fans were still confused about whether he could compete with top global hunters like Thomas Andre.

"Jeju Island. At that point, it was still unclear how strong Jinwoo was by international standards, and I was genuinely worried when Beru started one-shotting all the Japanese S-ranks." ~ BadMeetsWeevil

This created some sense of uncertainty and even worried fans if Jinwoo could defeat Ant King or not. Thus, the eventual battle was quite satisfying and more engaging. Once Jinwoo had cleared the S-rank Gate alone, without sustaining any serious injuries, suddenly most battles were not as enjoyable. This is primarily due to the fact that Jinwoo was too overpowered for most characters after Jeju Island.

Some fans even bemoaned the fact that following the Jeju Island arc, other characters sort of became irrelevant and the story became too hyper-focused on Sung Jinwoo. People with such a view seemed to enjoy the fact that other hunters were given the limelight on the forsaken island to show what they were capable of. Thus, the storyline was not only about Jinwoo, which was not the case with most other arcs.

"Jeju Arc is hype asf especially when all S ranked gathered on the Gym and then these S ranks showing off their skills later on in the raid, but it's also where the power levels kinda started to go ridiculous to a point where everyone other than Jinwoo is now irrelevant, which is sad in itself." ~ Rebus-YY

Fans who argued in favor of the Jeju Island arc also praised the buildup of Ant King's fight with Sung Jinwoo. The battle was surely the cherry on top and made everything else seem even more well-executed looking back. While picking the best arc of any series is always going to be a subjective decision, the Jeju Island arc does have quite a few reasonable arguments in its favor.

Fans Enjoyed Jinwoo Smashing Dongsoo and the Monarchs

While the Jeju Island arc was picked as the best arc by most fans, the Monarch arc and the International Guild Conference arc were also praised by the fans. Fans found the latter entertaining, especially because of its fight scenes. Jinwoo beating up Thomas Andre and Hwang Dongsoo after losing his temper was rated as one of the most satisfying moments from the International Guild Conference arc.

"For me, International Guild Conference is the top 1 because it has some crazy aura farming moments and the Thomas vs Sung fight was awesome." ~ dhruvpandya

The Monarch War arc was also picked by quite a few fans as the best arc of the series. Since the storyline has some of the most high-stakes battles along with emotionally charged moments, it's not surprising that it is loved by so many people. What the Monarch War arc also does so well is it lays the groundwork for the Final Battle arc, which is so perfectly executed that some fans feel that the latter does not live up to the expectations.

Overall, the fans, despite having different opinions on the specifics, mostly agree that the Jeju Island arc, Monarch War arc, and the International Guild Conference arc are the best arcs in the series. Each of them pushes Sung Jinwoo to evolve and become a better hunter, keeping fans engaged to the end.
