Thankfully, Solo Leveling’s creator, Chugong, reveals the answer.

Because Solo Leveling is mostly set in Korea, fans are more familiar with the nation's S-rank hunters. There’s Baek Yoon-Ho from the White Tiger Guild, Lim Tae-Gyu from the Fiend Guild, and Ma Dong-Wook from the Fame Guild, alongside Cha Hae-In, Choi Jong-In, Min Byung-Gu, and Go Gun-Hee. Although they hold the same rank, their powers are clearly not equal.

Solo Leveling Creator Reveals Cha Hae-In Can Clear an A-Rank Gate Alone

It’s Not Just Jin-Woo

Sung Jin-Woo has cleared countless gates by himself ever since he became a player in the system, and especially after he established the Ahjin Guild. While most gates don’t pose a real challenge to Jin-Woo, others, particularly high-level ones, prove more difficult to clear. But as Jin-Woo grows stronger and becomes even more powerful with his shadows, clearing a gate becomes a walk in the park for him.

However, clearing a gate alone is a different story for other S-rank hunters. There’s a strong chance they could not handle it alone, especially if it's a high-level gate. Regardless of the power they hold, survival would be a serious challenge. For instance, Kargalgan’s gate, which opened during the Hunters Guild arc in Season 2, would be extremely difficult for any S-rank hunter to clear alone.

Meanwhile, in a Korean forum called Dcinside, Solo Leveling’s creator, Chugong, answers an intriguing question from a fan about which S-rank hunter could possibly clear Kargalgan’s gate alone. Will it be Choi Jong-In or Baek Yoon-Ho? Here’s what the creator had to say, as translated:

“Even within A-rank gates, there are many variables, but as mages face many restrictions, a solo play will be difficult. As for Baek Yoon-Ho... Hmm... Uh-huh... Because of the Tusk's debuffs, it seems like it might be a bit tough for him... I used to think someone around Baek Yoon-Ho's level would be enough, but after thinking about it, it seems like it might be a bit challenging. I think someone around Cha Hae-In's level would be needed to clear the Tusk gate with some difficulty.”

Moving forward, when asked which version of Cha Hae-In could clear the A-rank gate alone, Chugong confirmed that he was referring to the novel version of Cha Hae-In, not the manhwa. “All of my settings are based on the original novel,” Chugong affirmed.

Contrary to expectations that it would be Choi Jong-In or Baek Yoon-Ho, Cha Hae-In emerged as the S-rank hunter who could clear Kargalgan’s gate by herself, though naturally with some difficulty. After all, Kargalgan’s strength relies not only on debuffs and his immense magic prowess but also on numbers. Cha Hae-In would have to exert more effort to defeat the high orcs one after another before she could get her hands on Kargalgan.

Could Cha Hae-In Clear an S-Rank Gate Alone?

In the original Solo Leveling manhwa, Cha Hae-In can’t clear an S-rank gate alone at her level. However, it would be a different story if she ever attempted to clear an S-rank gate in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, given the power-ups she obtains. But at this point in the anime and the original manhwa, it would be unlikely for her to survive an S-rank gate without Jin-Woo's or a nation-level hunter’s help.

The same applies to the other S-rank hunters in the series. It would also be difficult for nation-level hunters, considering they had to team up to defeat Kamish when the red dragon emerged back then. However, this doesn’t mean they don’t have a real shot. These hunters, particularly the likes of Thomas Andre, Christopher Reed, and Liu Zhigang, could fight toe-to-toe with S-level dungeon bosses like the Ant King from Jeju Island.

For now, what’s certain is that Cha Hae-In could outmaneuver Kargalgan and his high orc army within the A-rank gate in Solo Leveling, as confirmed by Chugong. Many more exciting events are waiting for Cha Hae-In in the anime series, so fans will have to go and watch Solo Leveling season 3 once it's released sometime in the future.
