This article contains spoilers for Solo Leveling.
For other characters, killing the legendary Sung Jinwoo in Solo Leveling seems like an impossible task. After all, he has power over the dead and wields the system itself. To make matters worse, Jinwoo grows stronger in the middle of the battle, never failing to emerge victoriously against opponents that were supposed to be stronger than him.
Solo Leveling: Sung Jin-Woo's Biggest Weaknesses In The Anime
Even though he is the strongest S-Rank Hunter in the world, Sung Jinwoo still has some glaring weaknesses
As if that weren’t enough, Jinwoo is obviously protected by plot armor. Throughout his many battles in the series, Jinwoo came close to dying in combat against overwhelmingly powerful opponents who tested the limits of his strength. Any of these characters could have killed Jinwoo in Solo Leveling if not for his mid-battle power boosts.
8 Kang Tae-Shik
Within the Korean Hunters Association (KHA), B-rank hunter Kang Tae-Shik secretly works as a ruthless assassin who preys on the weak. He has no regard for weak hunters, including those rehabilitators who are considered the scum of society.
As an underground assassin, Kang Tae-Shik possesses incredible speed and precision that allows him to take down victims as fast as possible. During his encounter with Jinwoo, he showed what a true master assassin can do, from lightning-fast reflexes to the art of stealth.
If it weren’t for Jinwoo’s ability to increase his speed, Kang Tae-Shik could have killed him alongside Lee Joo-Hee and Song Chi-Yul.
7 Baruka
It’s no secret that Baruka was on a higher level than Jinwoo when they met each other in the Red Gate story arc. After all, Jinwoo failed in summoning Baruka’s shadow, a clear sign that there’s a gap in their power level.
Baruka, the leader of the ice elves, fights Jinwoo with his army in Solo Leveling Season 2. He is incredibly powerful, capable of pushing Jinwoo on the defensive with his speed, endurance, and relentless attacks. In fact, Jinwoo nearly drains his mana from summoning shadows that can help him fight Baruka, as the leader of the ice elves is too powerful for him to contain.
While Baruka lost against Jinwoo, his mental resolve to reject the shadow extraction skill, not once but twice, proves how formidable he is.
6 Blood-Red Commander Igris
What’s waiting for Jinwoo in the Job-Change quest is none other than the warrior who guards the empty throne, Blood-Red Commander Igris. He is a true force of nature, armed with a deadly sword capable of taking Jinwoo down in the blink of an eye.
Fortunately, luck is in Jinwoo’s favor during his fight with Igris, as the mighty warrior who worships the original Shadow Monarch drops his humongous sword to match Ashborn’s successor fair and square.
If Igris hadn’t dropped his sword, the fight with Jinwoo could have been an easy win for him. That decision proved costly, allowing Jinwoo to seize the advantage, exploit his weakness, and turn the fight in his favor.
5 Sillad
The Frost Monarch, Sillad, is one of the most cunning characters in Solo Leveling, wise enough to pursue Jinwoo with his fellow monarchs even before Jinwoo could become a complete monarch. He is ruthless to the core, and his desire to defeat and wipe out the rulers once and for all is more intense than ever.
Sillad is the leader of the snow folk, which means he possesses power strong enough to command high-level dungeon bosses like Baruka without fail. He came close to killing Jinwoo during the monarchs’ invasion of Seoul until Sung Il-Hwan's intervention.
What makes Sillad remarkable is that he isn’t afraid to call for backup, even if it means facing Jinwoo alongside two allies. It’s a smart move, proving that Sillad combines his combat prowess with intelligence to come up with a more appropriate strategy to defeat his opponent.

4 Sung Il-Hwan
For those who aren’t aware, Sung Il-Hwan's real mission in Solo Leveling is to finish off Sung Jinwoo as part of his agreement with the Rulers. At the time of his release, Sung Il-Wan had enough power to do this, but not the mental resolve. After all, who wants to kill their own son for the sake of freedom? Not Sung Il-hwan, for sure.
If Jinwoo weren’t Il-Hwan's son, the latter could have killed him shortly after his return to Earth. Not only can Il-Hwan handle three Monarchs simultaneously, but he can also defeat an S-rank hunter of Hwang Dong-Soo's level in mere seconds. Thank goodness, Jinwoo has Il-Hwan's blood running in his veins.
3 The Architect of the System
The Architect of the System, aka Kandiaru, is a demonic specter who’s responsible for the system and its busted abilities. The first few episodes of Solo Leveling showed just how destructive his puppets are, from the giant Statue of God to the brutal statues that claimed the lives of Jinwoo’s fellow hunters easily.
It goes without saying that it’s easy for Kandiaru to end Jinwoo’s life from the very beginning. It’s also easy for him to overwhelm the now S-rank hunter in their actual confrontation in the Double Dungeon story arc, if it weren’t for his desire to see Ashborn’s descent to the human world.
Kandiaru can deactivate Sung Jinwoo’s army of shadows and even match his pace, turning his attacks against him. He is good at short-range and long-range combat alike, so much so that Jinwoo thought he would actually die from fighting him. Most impressively, Kandiaru is one of the few in Solo Leveling to survive a battle against Jinwoo.
2 Ashborn
Ashborn, the original Shadow Monarch, can easily kill Jinwoo if he wants to. If he wishes to abandon Jinwoo as his vessel, he could leave him vulnerable to all kinds of threats. Even a weak, low-level goblin could injure Jinwoo badly, so it would only take a matter of time before someone, or something, kills him during a dungeon raid without the powers of the Shadow Monarch.
Even after Jinwoo received the title of the Shadow Monarch, Ashborn, in theory, could still punish him with his abilities. After all, he wields abilities that are far superior to Jinwoo’s, making it easy for him to subdue Jinwoo. He is the most feared monarch, so it’s safe to assume that Jinwoo wouldn't stand a chance against him.
1 Antares
As the strongest monarch in Solo Leveling, Antares could kill Jinwoo as many times as he could. It’s just that Antares refuses to do so, choosing instead to watch how Jinwoo finds ways to grow stronger and challenge him again. He had so many chances to finish Jinwoo, but that wasn't fun for him for some reason.
In the Solo Leveling novel, Antares’ dominance over Jinwoo is made clear, as Jinwoo suffered multiple defeats at the hands of the strongest monarch. It was only after Jinwoo grew stronger in the Dimensional Rift and absorbed nearly ten million soldiers that he gained the power to finally challenge and defeat Antares for good.
