Summary

  • Thomas Andre is a powerful National Level Hunter with exceptional abilities and a strong track record.
  • Andre would have easily defeated the Ant Queen and her minions during the Jeju Island raid.
  • Despite his strength, Andre would not have won against the Ant King due to the boss's deadly poison.

The Jeju Island raid was one of Korea's most significant missions of its kind, especially because of the long history behind it. Clearing an S-rank dungeon is so rare that it had only been done once in the past, and the hunters who did it went on to be recognized as National Level Hunters.

Among them, Thomas Andre is regarded as the strongest and most influential. But would he have been able to clear the Jeju Island S-rank dungeon alone like Sung Jinwoo? With years of experience under his belt, one might assume that he is the right person for the mission. But is that the case? Let's try to understand.

With Sung Jinwoo needing every shadow he can get his hands on, why didn't he recruit the dead Japanese hunters into his shadow army?

Who is Thomas Andre?

The Strongest National Level Hunter

  • Webtoon Debut: Chapter 83
  • Anime Debut: Episode 21
  • Powers: Spiritual Body Manifestation, Reinforcement, Collapse, and Capture

Thomas Andre is one of the most accomplished hunters in the world. Despite coming from a poor family and struggling with poverty during his early life, he managed to turn things around because of his indomitable spirit and ruthless desire for domination.

Well, being a little frustrated is better than being dead, I’m sure!

Andre was lucky to be bestowed with incredible powers following his awakening and went on to participate in some of the most challenging battles that shaped the world. Perhaps his most impressive achievement is that he was one of the five fighters who defeated Kamish and brought an end to his rampage in America. Thomas also leads the Scavenger Guild and has years of experience dealing with dangerous magic beasts.

Thomas Andre Against Ant Queen and Her Minions

Scavenger Guild's Leader is Too Powerful for the Ant Queen

Thomas Andre, being a National Level Hunter, has fought magic beasts of all ranks. Being one of the few hunters to have fought Kamish, he understands the threat S-rank Gates typically pose. If he were to arrive on Jeju Island and was confronted by the evolved ants, Andre would have comfortably fought back.

Solo Leveling: How Many Non-S-Rank Hunters Would It Take to Defeat a Jeju Ant?

Without an S-rank hunter, how many hunters would it take to defeat one mutated Jeju Ant?

During the Jeju Island raid, most Japanese hunters were able to defeat many ants alone. Someone of Andre's stature would have been exponentially more effective in counter-attacking any magic beast that targeted him. By the time he would have been in the Ant Queen's lair, Thomas could already sense victory.

According to the Ant King, the Ant Queen is not someone who is adept at fighting. Even with her guards, she would have stood no chance against Thomas Andre. Scavenger Guild's leader would have easily killed everyone in the Queen Ant's lair without sustaining any life-threatening injuries.

Thomas Andre vs. The Ant King

Andre Would Not Have Won Against Ant King

When the Ant King came across the best S-rankers from Japan and Korea, he felt as if he was the hunter stalking its prey. He looked down on human beings and felt they were no match for him. His beliefs were only strengthened when he easily slaughtered some of Japan's best combatants. When the Ant Queen called for help, the Ant King confronted the Korean hunters inside the lair.

Are there others? Others you call king?

Like the Japanese, the Koreans were also too underpowered to hurt him. The Ant King played with them until he seriously injured most of them and killed Min Byung-Gyu. He could have easily killed everyone, but he was distracted by Goto Ryuji's strong presence outside the lair. His battle even with Japan's greatest hunter was brief, as he decapitated him before he could move. The Ant King would have been unstoppable had he not run into someone of Sung Jinwoo's caliber, who had already defeated several S-ranked magic beasts without breaking a sweat.

Thomas Andre had fought an S-rank dungeon boss only once before. Even then, he had the support of four other National Level Hunters, which included a healer-type hunter who probably played a crucial role in the entire mission. Without their support, Andre would not have been able to kill someone as strong as Kamish. Now, it is true that Kamish was significantly stronger than the Ant King, but the latter was still no pushover and could have unleashed a catastrophe of similar scale on Korea had Sung Jinwoo not intervened at the right time.

Jinwoo was also only able to stop him as he had already cleared Demon Castle, an S-rank instant dungeon. The experience of fighting dungeon boss Baran, Monarch of White Flames, helped him in the battle against the Ant King. For these reasons, it's safe to assume that by the time Jinwoo fought Jeju Island's secret dungeon boss, he was most likely far stronger than Thomas Andre. Even then, he would have died had he not had powers like Longevity and Detoxification, which helped him neutralize the Ant King's poison.

Unfortunately, Andre, being a Tanker-class hunter, does not have the luxury of healing his own wounds. Even if he were to somehow overwhelm the Ant King for most of the battle, the S-rank dungeon boss only needed one opening to poison him. Knowing how strong he is, it wouldn't be too hard for the Ant King to create such an opportunity, which means Thomas Andre would not have won against him.
