Unlocking the Army Of Shadows is a major event in Solo Leveling: Arise. After completing Chapter 9, players will gain access to the next two job change missions and change Sung Jinwoo's job to The Monarch Of Shadows.

How To Get Traces Of Shadow In Solo Leveling: Arise
The best way to obtain Traces of Shadow is by completing the story. Rewards for chapters 10 and onward will give players Traces of Shadow, often at a higher rate than the gates players will have access to right after unlocking the Army of Shadows. Players can farm story mode at their own pace between both Normal and Hard mode to obtain a hefty sum of Traces of Shadows right away.
The more common and long-lasting method of farming is by clearing gates in Solo Leveling: Arise. Low-ranking gates won't offer any Traces of Shadow at all with higher ones beginning to offer more and more. The exact amount earned at the end of a gate is randomized but clearing red gates will often have a higher chance of rewarding the usual amount of Traces of Shadow compared to other gates in that rank. Traces of Shadow are also a reward for participating in the Battlefield of Time and trading Medals of Time in the Exchange Shop.

What Are Traces Of Shadow Used For In Solo Leveling: Arise
Traces of Shadow are the first main resource players will need to obtain to get access to new shadows. While summoning a new shadow is locked behind completing a specific chapter of the story, players will still need to go into the Army Of Shadows menu and summon the shadow before it is usable.
Traces of Shadow are also used when trying to promote a shadow. Promoting a shadow will increase the amount of shades it costs to summon them, while also increasing the Max Army Level which can then be leveled up to increase the total power of the Army Of Shadows. Promoting a shadow will also give it an additional skill to use in combat, while further boosting the effectiveness of its ability bonus when in use.
