Solo Leveling is one of the most famous, if not the most famous, web novel series in the world. In 2016, Jang Sung-rak began working on the webtoon adaptation for Solo Leveling. He continued to do so until the final chapter, which was released in December 2021. Not long after the conclusion of the series, Jang Sung-rak sadly passed away due to a cerebral hemorrhage.
Given Solo Leveling's popularity, it was obvious that the series would receive an anime adaptation at one point or another. During the Anime Expo 2022, it was confirmed that an anime covering the webtoon would be released in 2023, but it was later delayed. In a recent announcement, it was revealed that the anime would premiere in January 2024. For Solo Leveling fans, there couldn't be a better way to start the year than by watching the anime adaptation of their favorite series.
The anime is being produced by A-1 Pictures, which has previously worked on titles such as Seven Deadly Sins, Black Butler, Fairy Tail, Sword Art Online, Your Lie In April, and Erased. Shunsuke Nakashige (Sword Art Online: Alicization, Fuuto PI) is directing the anime, while Noboru Kimura (Spy Classroom, Persona 5 The Animation) is writing the scripts. The character designs will be handled by Tomoko Sudo (Fate/Apocrypha, Uncle From Another World). Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Kill La Kill, Seraph of the End) will be in charge of composing the music.
Solo Leveling's web novel first started to serialize on KakaoPage in 2016, and after it was published by D&C Media. The name of the series was changed to Only I Level Up under Webnovel.
The webtoon adaptation of the series started in 2018, and the first season wrapped up in 2020. The collected volumes for the webtoon are handled by Yen Press.
South Korean mobile game developer Netmarble announced that a mobile game for Solo Leveling is in the works. At the moment, there is very limited information available about the game, but that should change in the future.
Solo Leveling is set in a world where Hunters, individuals with special abilities, battle different kinds of monsters to keep humanity alive. Sung Jinwoo, the main protagonist, is a weak hunter who can barely fight these malevolent forces. On a fateful day, Sun Jinwoo and his party come face-to-face with an extremely strong foe. Sun Jinwoo manages to survive, but the rest of his party members aren't so lucky. After his victory, he ends up receiving a powerful ability that boosts his strength.
