A Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 player found themselves in a truly bizarre situation while attempting to play the game's Zombies mode, being attacked by both zombies and other NPCs. A clip of the incident shows the moments the player was hunted and gunned down by what are supposed to be "friendly" NPCs for seemingly no reason, effectively leaving solo play broken in Black Ops 4.
Over a decade later, Call of Duty Zombies continues to be one of the most popular and celebrated game modes in history. Originally intended as a small Easter egg bonus mode for the end of Call of Duty: World at War in 2008, Call of Duty's Zombies mode transformed and evolved into the deep, complex survival experience players now know and love. Players can continue to get their Zombies fix in Modern Warfare 3, which places players in a massive open world to explore. However, one player attempting to relive the glory days of Black Ops 4 encountered an incredibly strange issue that rendered the game practically unplayable.
Reddit user Me_Llamo_Jeff shared a clip of their attempt to play a match of Black Ops 4 Zombies, which was quickly thwarted by NPCs in the game who attacked and downed the player. "When loading up a solo queue of any kind on Black Ops 4 Zombies, bots add themselves into the game and can kill/be killed," said the player. "This has started becoming a problem as of the 1st of August." Black Ops 4 introduced players to the Chaos storyline, with players taking on the role of one of four unique characters. When players opt to go solo, only one character is selected, allowing bots to take on the other three. However, as soon as the player loaded into the game, they were attacked by the other NPCs.
Black Ops 4 Player Faces Bizarre Zombies Issue
The player tried to play a match of Classified, which is Black Ops 4' s take on the classic Five Call of Duty Zombies map from the original Black Ops. Survival is key in Call of Duty Zombies, but players typically only need to worry about the undead as they play. The player claimed that solo is practically broken for them as a result. "It’s literally like a 2v2 no matter how many bots I have. One bot is my ally and the others attack us."
Despite this strange bug, Zombies fans have a very exciting few months ahead of them, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 set to continue the game mode once again. Under the wings of longtime Call of Duty developer Treyarch, the studio that actually created the Zombies game mode, Black Ops 6 aims to be a "return to form" moment in the franchise, offering a robust single-player, multiplayer, and Zombies experience. Treyarch already confirmed that Black Ops 6 will feature traditional round-based Zombies, but many more mysteries and secrets remain about this popular game mode. Black Ops 6 will officially be released on October 25, 2024, and will become the first Call of Duty game to launch on Xbox Game Pass.
