Some of the sharper eyes in the Smite 2 community may have already solved the mystery of the first two gods to be added following the 24/7 alpha's release on August 27, 2024, with the Hi-Rez Studios team dropping hints on their official X page. These additions will be the first of many, as Smite 2 gradually builds up its roster to match the immense size of its predecessor. The news was dropped by Hi-Rez Studios' Alex Cantatore, who recently spoke with The Best War Games about the launch of the highly anticipated sequel to the popular MOBA Smite.
Nu Wa and Amaterasu Joining Smite 2 Roster - Exclusive Interview Highlights
Alex Cantatore sits down with us to discuss the upcoming title Smite 2.
Nu Wa and Amaterasu Are Next To Join Smite 2
Nu Wa and Amaterasu will be the first new additions to Smite 2 and will kick off Hi-Rez Studios' plan to continue adding fan favorites from the original game. When asked about their intentions for the game post-launch, Cantatore went on to state that the aim is to introduce two gods every three weeks, either in the form of two classics from the original Smite, or one classic and one brand-new one, such as Mordred, that will be exclusive to the sequel.
"In the next update, we're going to have Nu Wa and Amaterasu, two beloved Smite 1 gods...and then three weeks after that we'll have another two."
The news will be music to the ears of fans of both incoming characters, as the devs tackle the enormous task of integrating the original game's stacked roster of 130 gods into the sequel. Cantatore acknowledged that some fans will have to wait a while for their favorite to join Smite 2, referencing one of his own, Sylvanus, being at the back of the line.
That said, Cantatore assures the fanbase that it will continue to service the original game for as long as it has players and will continue to listen to community feedback as it pushes forward with more updates and tweaks to keep the fanbase engaged. Fans of Smite will be all too familiar with both Nu Wa and Amaterasu, but they will see these characters in a whole new light. In the original Smite, the two gods were part of the Mage and Warrior classes, respectively, but this concept has since been dropped for the sequel.
Fans can expect improvements to how gods play in Smite 2 in its classic game modes, as well as enjoy greater flexibility in how they utilize their favorite character's skillset. While the core game modes remain largely the same, Smite 2 offers points of difference by introducing pre-builds, a broader selection of items, and the freedom of a less rigid class system, which means that any god can assume any role so long as their build supports it.
The Hi-Rez Studios team will be diving into the new gods coming to Smite 2 this Thursday, September 12, at 3PM ET. Tune in to find out more on their official Twitch channel.
