Summary
- The Jungle role in Smite 2 requires experience; new players should start with other roles first.
- Mordred shines in Jungle and Solo roles with aggressive playstyle and varied abilities.
- Thanatos excels in dealing damage in the Jungle role, using health for abilities and healing.
Smite 2 has made a lot of improvements over the original game — some being more impactful than others. One such change came in the form of reworking buffs gained from Jungle camps. The Jungle role serves as the only non-Lane focused role in the game and will focus on becoming stronger by moving through the jungles between the Lanes.
Smite 2: Achievement and Trophy Guide
Hunting down every trophy/achievement in a game helps to give a sense of accomplishment among the joy of playing the game itself.
New players who wish to play the Jungle role might not want to make this their first choice, as there are many other roles far better suited for beginners. Once players have a far better grasp of all the game’s basics, then they should explore what each role has to offer.
6 Mordred
Aggressive Melee-Focused Hybrid
- Ability Aptitude: Hybrid (Favors Strength)
- Defense: Medium-Low
- Attack Damage: Medium-High
- Ability Damage: Medium
Mordred has an extremely aggressive melee playstyle. He can be built to be an outstanding force to be reckoned with while moving through the jungle. Overall, Mordred’s playstyle is all about closing the distance between his targets and then unleashing as much damage as possible by rotating between his abilities and even stealing their life to stay in the fight longer.
However, he is not a one-trick pony, as when things become harrowing, he can fire off a ranged attack to slow enemies — and even root them in place. His ultimate in particular will let him run through walls and end with a series of highly damaging slices, which can be used to both escape and ambush his targets. When another player calls the Jungle role, Mordred is also able to shine brightly in the Solo role.
5 The Morrigan
Risky Bust Damage
- Ability Aptitude: Hybrid (Favors Intelligence)
- Defense: Low
- Attack Damage: Low
- Ability Damage: Very High
Another Hybrid God one can take into the jungle is The Morrigan, who will be a great option if a player wants a God they can also learn to use for the Mid-Lane. She features a ranged basic attack, plenty of tricks up her sleeve in terms of abilities, and can turn invisible to gank enemy Gods that are low on health.
Smite 2: How To Build Hades
Playing Gods effectively is just one element of mastering Smite 2. You will also need to know how to build Gods as they gain levels.
While her defense and attack damage are low compared to other Gods, her Ability Damage is phenomenal and well worth the trade-off. This means players will want to deal high amounts of damage and disengage, avoiding Crowd Control.
4 Thanatos
Health Management Is Key
- Ability Aptitude: Hybrid (Favors Strength)
- Defense: Low
- Attack Damage: Very High
- Ability Damage: Very High
Just like The Morrigan, Thanatos is on the lower end of defense compared to other Jungle Gods, but he makes up for it with massive amounts of damage and the ability to heal back up. However, Thanatos is not an easy God to play due to his abilities using his health rather than mana. Thanatos will be able to see enemy Gods who are low on health and swoop in to finish them off — healing himself in the process.
This ability to heal will be vital to playing Thanatos, as players who underestimate how much their abilities eat into their health will find themselves dying time and time again. Players will want to try playing him in other game modes such as Arena beforehand, to get a better feel about how to use him.
3 Loki
Backstabbing Assassin Gameplay
- Ability Aptitude: Hybrid (Favors Intelligence)
- Defense: Low
- Attack Damage: High
- Ability Damage: High
Players who want to play Loki will want to perfect the art of getting behind their opponents, due to him receiving increased damage from hitting them in the back. This is complemented nicely by his ability to turn himself invisible to get the drop on his opponents — especially for ganking. He is also able to blind enemies and teleport, further synergizing with his kit.
Smite 2: How To Build Ares
Smite 2 Gods may be more flexible than they used to be, but Ares is still at home in the Duo Lane.
Not only can all of these abilities be used to go on the offensive, but he can also use them to make daring escapes to compensate for his low defense. There are many different founder editions for Smite 2, and those who pick up the Deluxe or Ultimate editions of the game will get their hands on an Ascension Pass for Loki.
2 Susano
Brilliant Ganker While Playing Jungle Role
- Ability Aptitude: Hybrid (Favors Strength)
- Defense: Low
- Attack Damage: High
- Ability Damage: High
There are many great Gods for each role, and Sasuno is one of the best options when considering the Jungle role. One of the abilities that make him such a great option for the Jungle role is Wind Siphon, which can pull an enemy toward them for a well-timed Ganked. Players will want to follow this up by rotating basic attacks between abilities to stack debuffs on enemies — making them easier to finish off.
His playstyle is very straightforward, but some players might find that he takes some time to get used to such as getting the most out of his Storm Kata ability.
1 Fenrir
High Damage Ambusher
- Ability Aptitude: Strength
- Defense: Medium
- Attack Damage: High
- Ability Damage: High
Fenrir is not just an amazing pick for playing the Jungle role, he is also one of the best Gods for new players to learn the game with. Players will want to have all of his runes to grant access to a stun, followed by granting allies lifesteal. This will be particularly useful when he exits the jungle to gank an enemy God who is battling with one of his allies thanks to his high damage output.
Should the enemy try and flee, Fenrir is able to pursue them relentlessly with Brutalize, but also using his ultimate to carry them where he wants them to be. Suddenly having to deal with a Fenrir with all of its runes coming from the jungle can massively disrupt an opponent’s team’s plans.
