The Princess and the Dragon is a route in Slay the Princess that was added to the game with the release of the Pristine Cut upgrade. To access this route, players must reach the Spectre, a Princess that can appear in Chapter 2, and then choose some specific options. This guide is here to elaborate upon that process, and it will help fans reach the Princess and the Dragon route in Slay the Princess: The Pristine Cut.
While this guide attempts to minimize spoilers, it does contain details about events that occur along the path to the Princess and the Dragon route in Slay the Princess.

Slay the Princess: The Princess and the Dragon Route Guide
Get the Spectre
The first step toward accessing the Princess and the Dragon route is making the Spectre appear in Chapter 2. To manifest that particular Princess in Slay the Princess, players must carefully follow the Narrator's instructions in Chapter 1 and then refuse his reward. For full clarity, here are the options that fans should select during Chapter 1 in order to reach the Spectre:
- [Silently continue to the cabin.]
- [Proceed into the cabin.]
- (Explore) [Take the blade.]
- [Enter the basement.]
- [Continue down the stairs.]
- [Steel your nerves and step forward.]
- [Slay the Princess.]
- Of course it is. She's dead.
- [Leave.]
- I was kind of hoping I'd get a better ending for saving the world.
- Hell no, do you have any idea how to get us the heck out of here?
- Anything to get out of this hell.
Get Possessed and Slay the Princess
Players will have now reached The Spectre, and the goal in this second chapter is to get possessed and then slay the Princess. That said, it is important to note that the choices that visual novel fans make on their way to becoming possessed affect how the Dragon and the Princess route unfolds. Players are thus advised to make a save at the beginning of Chapter 2: The Spectre and then use that save to explore the various paths that lead to the Princess and the Dragon route.
Once a save has been made, Slay the Princess players should select the following options to obtain the blade and enter the basement:
- [Proceed to the cabin.]
- [Proceed into the cabin.]
- (Explore) [Take the blade.]
- [Enter the basement.]
Players must now make a choice that will have a significant impact on the Dragon and the Princess route. Specifically, horror game fans must attempt to slay the Princess once before becoming possessed, or they must skip directly to the possession. Here are the options that should be selected for both of those paths:
Hostile Path
- [Slay the Princess.]
- (Explore) What do you want from me?
- No complaints here. Do it. [Let the Princess possess you.]
- [Slay the Princess.]
Gentle Path
- [Wait and see how things play out.]
- (Explore) Okay, clearly slaying you isn't going to work. What do you want?
- Sounds great. Do it. [Let the Princess possess you.]
- [Slay the Princess.]
The Princess and the Dragon
Players have now reached the Princess and the Dragon route, and the tone of the chapter, and the achievements that are available, are contingent upon the path that was taken in Chapter 2: The Spectre. While it is recommended that indie game fans make a save and explore the route for themselves, players who want to make sure that they see all the content in the Princess and the Dragon route should pursue these paths:
Either Path
- Before the title card, select (Explore) What are we supposed to do? Just wait for something to happen? Then select (Explore) There has to be something for us to do other than wait. Repeatedly select that option to trigger an achievement.
Hostile Path
- Pick options until the protagonist is returned to their body, then select "Wait wait wait I'm back in my body! You getting stabbed switched me back!"
- Pick options until the protagonist is returned to their body, then select "I'm back in here, but you should do it. Kill me. End this and save yourself."
Gentile Path
- Pick options until the protagonist is returned to their body, and then choose [Drop the blade.], "We do it right this time. We leave together. Hand in hand.", and [Give her the blade.].
- Pick options until the protagonist is returned to their body, and then choose [Turn around and leave.].
- Pick options until the protagonist is returned to their body, and then choose Good to be back boys. [Finish the job.].
