The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim follows the Dragonborn as they attempt to find a way to stop Alduin, an ancient dragon, from returning to his full power and taking revenge on the people of Skyrim. While the main story paints this objective as a priority, players are also free to explore Skyrim's vast lands and complete side quests in the meantime.
Skyrim's "The House of Horrors" side quests brings the Dragonborn into contact with Molag Bal, a Daedric Prince who seeks revenge on a priest of Boethiah. Seeing as he is unable to enact revenge himself, however, he is forced to rely on the Dragonborn to bring his enemy to justice.
How To Start The House Of Horrors Side Quest
Upon entering the city of Markarth, players should head west, along the stream of water, until they encounter a man standing outside a house on the right. The man, named Vigilant Tyranus, will then approach the Dragonborn and ask them to help him investigate the Abandoned House just behind him, as he believes a powerful Daedra has taken up residence there.
When the conversation ends, the Dragonborn can follow Tyranus inside the Abandoned House and trail after him. Eventually, players will be faced with a locked door, and Tyranus will make a break for the entrance. A voice will then command the Dragonborn to kill Tyranus, and since there is no way to escape the house, the only way to progress the quest is to oblige.
Once Tyranus is dead, the locked door will open, allowing players to head deeper into the Abandoned House and then into a small cave. Reaching the end of the path, the Dragonborn will find a Rusty Mace sticking out of an Altar. Interacting with the mace will cause a trap to spring, resulting in the Dragonborn being captured. After a short conversation, the Daedric Prince, Molag Bal, will task the Dragonborn with seeking out the priest of Boethiah.
Where To Find The Priest Of Boethiah
If players have already visited Deepwood Redoubt, they can fast-travel there to find the priest of Boethiah; otherwise, the location can be found by traveling directly west from Solitude. Once there, the Dragonborn will need to either sneak by or fight their way through a group of Forsworn until they reach the entrance to Deepwood Redoubt itself.
Inside Deepwood Redoubt, players should turn their attention to the path leading right and travel into the next room. To the left, they will find a Master Lock door that must be opened in order to reach the next area. After passing through the door and crossing the bridge, players will find a door that leads to Deepwood Vale. Deepwood Vale is crawling with Forsworn, but most of them can be picked off from a distance if players have access to a bow; if not, players should prepare themselves for a pretty tense enemy rush.
Traveling east toward Hag's End and heading up to the platform on the right, players will find the priest of Boethiah, Logrolf the Willful, crouched down in a tent. Upon freeing him, he will run away, and a prompt will appear, tasking the Dragonborn with returning to the Abandoned House in Markarth.
How To Complete The House Of Horrors Side Quest
After entering the Abandoned House once more, Logrolf will appear directly in front of the Dragonborn. He will then proceed to run through the house until he reaches the Altar with the Rusty Mace, where he will get caught by Molag Bal's trap. The Dragonborn will then be given the Rusty Mace and commanded by Molag Bal to kill Logrolf.
Once Logrolf has been killed, Molag Bal will resurrect him and command the Dragonborn to repeat the process. Logrolf will submit to Molag Bal's will after a second beating; then, the Dragonborn must kill Logrolf one final time.
Molag Bal will praise the Dragonborn for killing Logrolf before rewarding them with the Mace of Molag Bal, a powerful weapon that deals 25 points of Stamina and Magicka damage when used. Once the conversation ends, "The House of Horrors" side quest will be completed.
