A recent mod for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim will let the Dragonborn finally get some revenge on Belethor. One of the first merchants that players encounter in Skyrim, Belethor can be found in Whiterun, selling general goods of all kinds, from cheese wheels to armor. Throughout a Skyrim playthrough, for many people, Belethor’s General Goods will be a frequent stop for both buying and selling items.
Of course, players familiar with the game will know that Belethor is also one of the most hated NPCs in Skyrim. Maybe it’s the storekeeper’s tone of voice, but the way that he says “Do come back” as the player exits the shop makes many people momentarily grit their teeth. Adding to this general feeling of disagreeableness is the fact that Belethor cheerfully says that he sells everything and would even offload his sister if he had one.
Cue the entrance of Belethor’s sister, courtesy of Nexus Mods user wSkeever, who thought it was about time this slighted sibling got some payback. Spotted by PC Gamer, the mod “Belethor’s Sister – Quest” adds two main and three side missions, the first of which requires the player to set out to rescue Belethor’s sister, Lelaegh, who has been sold by her shameless brother. This task isn’t easy, as the poor girl has been bought and resold a number of times, leading the player along a trail of merchants, into dungeons, and finally to the Soul Cairn from Skyrim’s Dawnguard DLC.
Once Lelaegh has been duly rescued and returned to Whiterun, it’s time to really get revenge on Belethor. Now, she requests the Dragonborn’s help in carrying out a hostile takeover of her brother's shop. With that done, the player becomes a partial shareholder in Belethor’s General Goods and begins earning a weekly payout. It will also be necessary to complete a couple of missions, like taking out bandits, to maintain an uninterrupted flow of products.
It should be noted that, because part of the “Belethor’s Sister” mod takes place in Soul Cairn, players will need to have completed the “Chasing Echoes” quest from Skyrim's Dawnguard DLC. They also need to be level 20. And unfortunately for those who grow attached to Belethor’s sister while playing through the new content, Lelaegh cannot be made a follower because wSkeever has “married” her to the store.
Skyrim has been around since 2011 and has been released and re-released on multiple platforms. Nearing 12 years old, the game still has a healthy fan base, thanks in large part to its very active modding community that perennially shares new creations online. Some of these are downright silly, such as a recent mod that slides guns into the high-fantasy RPG, while other mods add a bit more immersion and believability to Skyrim.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Anniversary Edition is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
