Skyrim has stayed popular since its initial release. With such a huge world to explore players want to be able to quickly fast travel to areas they've already discovered. Unfortunately, the Dragonborn can't travel fast while over-encumbered. This happens when the weight of all items in the inventory exceeds the character's limit.
The Dragonborn will be stuck slowly walking to the nearest vendor if they don't have a horse to ride or a companion to give items to. This is where a Fortify Carry Weight Potion can come in handy. Using one will grant a temporary increase to inventory space and allow fast travel. This guide details all the required ingredients to make a useful potion in Skyrim.
Fortify Carry Weight Ingredients
Ingredients can be bought at Apothecaries throughout the continent. Check stores regularly as their inventories change as time passes. Waiting outside the stores will also cause them to restock. All ingredients can be found in the open world of Skyrim.
- Creep Cluster - These are rust-colored roots growing on rocks in the Eastmarch region. This is the area surrounding Windhelm. There are 39 plants placed around the Steamcrag Camp south of Windhelm.
- Giant's Toe - The Dragonborn can loot one toe off of every giant they kill. These are valuable ingredients that have powerful alchemy effects. Giants can be found at Giant Camps all over the world. Look for mammoth icons on the map and compass to find them. Three can be found in Dawnstar's White Hall.
- Hawk Beak - Hawk Beaks can be found on dead hawks. Use a bow to shoot them out of the sky. There are multiple nests around the East Empire Company Warehouse near Solitude.
- River Betty - These are fish that can be caught in many rivers and lakes. Search the waters around the Apprentice Stone. This is the Standing Stone to the south of the East Empire Company Warehouse.
- Scaly Pholiota - This is a fungus that grows on trees in the Rift region of Skyrim. 17 can be found around the Darklight Tower southwest of Riften. Four guaranteed samples can be found at the Fellglow Keep northeast of Whiterun.
- Wisp Wrappings - Wrappings are a rare ingredient that can be found by killing wispmothers. They can only be encountered by killing wisps. These are glowing orbs of light that are passive until attacked. Some can be found at the Labyrinthian southeast of Morthal along with a few other unique locations in Skyrim.
How to Make the Potion
Take any combination of at least two of the above ingredients to an alchemy table. They can be found at Apothecary Vendors and some Jarl holds. Players can acquire one for their houses as well. Mind the other effects of each ingredient. The potion can have some detrimental effects on the Dragonborn along with the Carry Weight buff. Try different combinations to improve the alchemy skill and the Potion of Fortify Carry Weight effects.
