Although Alchemy is not a core mechanic in Dragonborn's arsenal, Jarrin Root's effect is worth exploring. As one of the most poisonous plants in Skyrim, consuming this root in its raw form can cause instant death to even the most resilient creatures. But if you make it into high-quality poison, you can kill almost anyone.

Unfortunately, you can only get one copy of Jarrin Root, which makes it very wasteful to use it to kill some emperor as required by the task. However, we have a few tricks to get more Jarrin Roots in Skyrim and brew more portions of deadly poison.

Where To Find Jarrin Root in Skyrim

Jarrin Root in Skyrim

The only way to get Jarrin Root in Skyrim is to talk to a girl named Astrid during the To Kill an Empire quest in the Dark Brotherhood questline. During this quest, you need to kill the emperor using this deadly plant, but the good news is that this is unnecessary. You can kill the target in many other ways, leaving the one-of-a-kind root for yourself.

Since Astrid is the only source of Jarrin Root, you will not be able to grow it or find it anywhere in the world. But you can use console commands to get more Jarrin Roots, although this method is not fair. However, some players use the barter system, throwing away valuable and hard-to-get resources and giving themselves a rare root using console commands. Of course, this is not the best way, but it works, and you can use it by entering the command player.addItem 0001BCBC.

If you don't want to resort to console commands, you can get two roots instead of one using a little trick. You only need to rob Astrid and steal this valuable plant from her before she gives it to you as part of the quest. After this, you must make poison from it, and only after that accept the quest and another root from the girl. If you accept Jarrin Root without spending the previous one, the first copy will disappear from your inventory. And if you leave it in storage, the girl will not give you this item by assuming you already have it.

Skyrim: How to Use Jarrin Root

Jarrin Root, Blisterwort, and Human Heart in Skyrim

As the rarest poison ingredient in the game, Jarrin Root is used to brew 19 different poisons, and its effect is superior to Giant's Toe, the rarest ingredient that can be farmed. But given the limitations of this material, you should use it exclusively in one recipe:

  • Jarrin Root
  • Blisterwort
  • Human Heart

This poison is the only one in the game that has 5 effects at once: Damage Health, Damage Magicka, Damage Magicka Regen, Damage Stamina, and Frenzy. At the same time, having reached Alchemy level 100, you can get poison that deals up to 1000 damage, which can potentially kill anyone and anything. Additionally, before cooking the poison, you should complete the A Return To Your Roots quest and obtain Sinderion's Serendipity. This ability gives you a 25% chance of receiving two portions of poison at once. With the additional stolen root, you can get up to 4 portions of poison with 1000 damage without using console commands.
