After an impressive run on YouTube, Shirley Curry is retiring from the platform after years of uploading gameplay videos. Nicknamed "Skyrim Grandma" by the internet, Curry made waves on YouTube as an elderly lover of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, but she has now decided to lay down her sword in favor of some well-earned relaxation.
Curry began her YouTube career back in 2011, quickly catching the attention of other gamers. Thanks to her love of The Elder Scrolls series, Curry was beloved by many of the franchise's fans. Bethesda once even sent Curry flowers as a gesture of appreciation while she was recovering from a stroke. Over the years, she has been a beloved fixture in the gaming community, but all good things must unfortunately come to an end.
Vtuber Ironmouse's YouTube Channel Has Been Terminated
Ironmouse's YouTube channel has reportedly been hit with a suspension from the platform, to the surprise of the creator and her fans.
Despite her love for Skyrim, Curry announced on her YouTube channel that she is stepping away from her role as the Skyrim Grandma, citing boredom and exhaustion as the reasons for her decision. The pressure to consistently upload has started to take its toll, leading Curry to make the difficult decision to retire. "It seems like I spend most of my time sitting in here at this computer," she said. After Curry's impressive YouTube milestones, like receiving a Gold Play Button, her retirement truly marks the end of an era.
Skyrim Grandma Announces Retirement
Curry's online presence has been such an inspiration to some that she was even the subject of a Skyrim mod project. From fan-made petitions asking Bethesda to immortalize Curry in The Elder Scrolls 6 as an NPC to receiving gifts from Bethesda, Shirley Curry's impact on the community can't be understated. With 1.29 million YouTube subscribers, her presence is a reminder that gaming can be enjoyed at any age. As gaming has taken up most of her time, she is now setting her sights on exploring other interests. Although she is stepping away from gaming, Curry mentioned that she may occasionally upload videos to showcase progress on a quilt she is making or share insight into a book she is reading.
It seems like I spend most of my time sitting in here at this computer.
It is sad to see Skyrim Grandma go, but the frustration and pressure to make videos consistently is an understandable reason to step away. As Curry continues waiting for The Elder Scrolls 6, she will now have plenty of time to enjoy her other hobbies. Curry has come a long way in her gaming ventures since 2011 and is now aiming to put her interests and personal life first. There is no telling when audiences will see Skyrim Grandma again, but many will undoubtably miss her uploads.
