A video from The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim shows that fans may want to be careful when using mods, as they can result in some unexpected events. The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim originally launched in 2011, and Bethesda celebrated its 10-year anniversary by releasing a special Skyrim Anniversary Edition of the game.
Mods have likely contributed heavily to the longevity of Skyrim, as gamers can get a completely different experience based on the mods they have installed. In addition to upgrading the graphics or adding quality-of-life improvements, some Skyrim mods can radically alter various gameplay aspects, giving users a fresh adventure each time. However, one video shows users need to be careful when using Skyrim mods.
A Reddit user named Bitter-Credit-9763 has shared a clip of them fighting a bandit in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. The player hits the enemy a couple of times and manages to initiate a unique kill cam using the VioLens Skyrim mod, only for the bandit to fall off the platform. However, presumably due to the kill cam starting at that exact moment, both the bandit and the player float in midair as the animation plays out. Bitter-Credit-9763 falls to their death right after the animation ends, possibly wondering if the unique kill cam animation led to their demise.
It’s not completely unheard of for this issue to happen in an unmodded version of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, but the custom kill animation may have triggered it, or increased the likelihood of it occurring. Some players in the comments also make references to Looney Tunes and Acme products, while others post questions about the mods featured in the video. The player mentions that they are using the Believable weapons mod, which changes the look of the weapons in Skyrim, in addition to VioLens for the kill cam.
Gamers will also find a ton of mods that can drastically change the graphics and various gameplay aspects of Skyrim. As an example, one video shows a fan using Skyrim mods to play as Batman and take out citizens of Whiterun, while another gives all NPCs of the game the power to use Dragon Shouts.
It’ll be interesting to see if mods can have a similar effect on the longevity of upcoming Bethesda games like Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6. While Starfield is scheduled to launch in 2023, The Elder Scrolls 6 was confirmed to be in pre-production in 2022, so users will probably have to wait for a few years to play it.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
