A Skyrim player, who wished to indulge in the seasonal festivities, decided to carve a pumpkin inspired by the first few minutes of the title. Skyrim is an industry household name that was released almost 11 years ago, and the game has maintained relevance due to a thriving modding community and consistent re-releases of the open-world title.

The opening of Bethesda's seminal open-world role-playing game has been immortalized in the collective consciousness of gamers, with the famous line "hey, you, you're finally awake," providing the foundation for over a decade of memes. Following a brief introduction, Skyrim immediately has the player character open their eyes to discover they are on a carriage, imprisoned after falling prey to an Imperial ambush. Ralof, the Stormcloak who greets the Dragonborn, is adored by fans, and one has decided to honor him for this upcoming spooky season.

In an image uploaded to Reddit by u/candyapplesauce_99, a pumpkin can be seen with Ralof carved into the middle. Trees are scattered in the distance, which display a convincing sense of depth for pumpkin artistry. The carriage makes an appearance too, and Ralof's chain mail is exquisitely carved, with multiple fine lines crafting a compelling pattern to represent it. Comments were particularly impressed with what was confirmed to be a first attempt, but some claimed that this version of Ralof seemed to mimic the style of a South Park character. A few theorized what inappropriate titles a South Park/Skyrim crossover would birth, while others drew attention to the eyes of the Stormcloak warrior, believing them to be slightly uncanny and joking that he must have read an Elder Scroll.

There exists literature in-game, titled Effects of the Elder Scrolls, which documents experiences with the Elder Scrolls, which risk blinding those who read too much or when unprepared to do so. Skyrim's Dawnguard expansion provides a rather extensive view of this phenomenon, with players coming across a Moth Priest, a member of a cult that is dedicated to studying, translating, and withstanding the Elder Scrolls.

With The Elder Scrolls 6 having been announced, fans can look forward to journeying through Tamriel once again and can continue testing if reading Elder Scrolls will one day afflict the player with blindness. However, it will likely be a while before launch day arrives, as Bethesda is still hard at work on its new IP Starfield, set to release next year, which allegedly boasts an even larger open world than Skyrim, with a number of unique planets that surpasses 1000 in total.

The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
