Skull and Bones players can customize their ships and appearance using the various in-game currencies. Silver is the most common, but players will notice another type of coin called Pieces of 8. They can be spent on high-quality specialty items such as cosmetics, blueprints, furniture, weapons, and resources.

Pieces of 8 are unavailable at the beginning of the game, and players must progress to a certain point before they can be earned. However, it is well worth it because they will have access to some of the most exclusive, robust equipment. This guide covers how to get Pieces of 8 and where to use them in Skull and Bones.

How to Get Pieces of 8 in Skull and Bones

Skull and Bones Yanita The Helm A Tight Ship

Pieces of 8 are rare, and players can earn the valuable currency by completing special contracts for a secret organization known as The Helm. This storyline begins after players finish John Scurlock's "Unsettling Grip" quest and earn enough Infamy in Skull and Bones. They will receive a letter at Sainte-Anne inviting them to speak to the bartender at Le Pont Muet, Yanita.

Yanita tells players about The Helm and their Black Market smuggling business. They've been invited to join the organization due to their success in other pirate endeavors. The Helm specializes in smuggling goods such as Rum and Opium. Players will be tasked with gathering materials such as Sugarcane and Poppy Seed and refining them into Helm Wares. Yanita invites them to take a Supply Order from the Order Registry at the back of the bar.

This will start a Contract called "Taking the Helm." Players must visit a location marked on their map to pick up unique resources and deliver them to the Helm. When players complete "Taking the Helm," a new Supply Order will appear attached to a Contract called "A Tight Ship," with a reward of 25 Pieces of 8 upon completion.

Skull and Bones Supply Order Pieces of 8

Helm Orders smuggling goods typically require players to make direct deliveries, so fast traveling isn't allowed. While moving the items, enemy NPCs known as Rouges will target and attack players. As long as the supplies make it to their destination, players will get the Pieces of 8 deposited into their inventory.

Where to Spend Pieces of 8

Skull and Bones Helm Coins Pieces of 8 The Black Market

Once the handoff is complete, you'll earn your first Pieces of 8 and be prompted to return to Yanita. She will then give players access to the Black Market inside the Helm. The Black Market contains resource packs, specialized cannons and armor, and ship and character cosmetics. Players can also get rare blueprints.

Helm Orders are dangerous, but the risk is worth the reward if players want to become the fiercest Pirate Kingpin. Eventually, as you rise in the ranks to Kingpin, you'll be in charge of managing a smuggling business without having to do the dirty work.
