Electronic Arts has announced that Skate will launch in early access on September 16 on all platforms. Announced in 2020, Skate is a free-to-play sequel to the long-dormant skateboarding franchise that saw its last mainline entry over 15 years ago. It’s set to be a full reboot for the series, and is being developed by Full Circle, a studio established by EA to helm the game’s development.
While not currently available to the public, fans have gotten glimpses at what the game has to offer from trailers, leaks, and pre-alpha gameplay footage shared by Skate playtesters. As the game’s release approaches, even more details regarding the title are being gradually shared with fans, including Skate’s content model, customization options, and the 100+ songs that are confirmed to be featured at launch. Now, the wait is almost over, as EA has finally confirmed when fans can expect to get their hands on the highly anticipated game.
Skate Has Bad News for Fans, But Confirms Early Access Launch Window
EA and Full Circle have bad news about Skate, but there's good news regarding the reboot's upcoming early access launch window.
Skate Early Access Release Date
- September 16, 2025
Electronic Arts and Full Circle have previously hinted at the game’s release window, stating that Skate will be released in Summer 2025, but have never locked in an exact date. Now, a new official trailer confirms that Skate will launch in early access on September 16 for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the EA app.
At launch, Skate will be free-to-play, with cross-platform compatibility, letting players connect with friends across systems. In addition, the game will also feature cross-progression, making it possible to access the same account from multiple platforms. Skate will follow the seasonal content model, receiving new content, timed events, and exclusive cosmetics every three months on a fixed schedule, a common practice in live-service games.
Described as an “ever-evolving online skateboarding sandbox,” Skate will be set in the city of San Vansterdam, a massive, multiplayer open-world playground built for skaters. Physics will be handled by the Frostbite Engine, and the iconic “Flick-it” system will, fortunately, make a return. In addition to the classics, Skate will also feature new tricks like wallies, slappies, and firecrackers to spice up the gameplay loop and give veterans new things to master.
Anticipation for Skate is sky-high, driven by long-time fans who have waited over 15 years for a fourth installment. The fact that over a million people signed up for Skate’s closed playtests, breaking EA’s internal records, is more than enough proof that the game has a dedicated following eager for a worthy mainline entry in the franchise. All EA needs to do now is stick the landing.
