Skate players are voicing their frustrations after the free-to-play reboot released a brand-new Dead Space bundle. The catch is that Skate players need to pay $35 to skateboard around San Vansterdam while dressed as a cardboard-style version of Isaac Clarke, which is not cheap at all.
It was initially announced that Skate would be a live-service free-to-play game over three years ago. Long-time fans of the series raised concerns about what that could mean about its monetization strategy back then, too, with paid character skins feeling like the obvious route EA could potentially take with its live-service reboot. Those concerns have seemingly come to fruition with the latest Dead Space bundle.

Skate Players Are Annoyed At Dead Space Bundle's $35 Price Tag
A Reddit thread started by user Parzalai highlighted that a new Skate skin bundle based on EA franchise Dead Space costs 3,350 San Van Bucks, which costs a minimum of $35 to buy in the in-game store. Predictably, fans aren't happy, with many lamenting the "outrageous pricing" of the bundle, which includes a skateboard, an emote, various stickers, and a cardboard-style character skin based on Dead Space protagonist Isaac Clarke.
It isn't just the high cost of the bundle that is setting players off, either. The appearance of the Isaac Clarke skin, which appears to be more of a Halloween-style cardboard costume as opposed to his actual Dead Space armor, hasn't gone down well. Described by one player as "slop cosplay with cardboard and tape," fans lamented that Skate 3 had a free Isaac Clarke skin 15 years ago, based on his actual in-game armor, and "not some kid’s attempt at a cardboard box halloween costume." Given Skate's mixed reviews on launch, it doesn't feel as though this bundle really helps matters in the eyes of the player base.
That Skate already has cosmetics to buy is controversial in its own right - the game is still very much in Early Access, and seems to be a long way from release at the moment. Regardless, with the arrival of Skate Season 1, EA and developer Full Circle has the opportunity to continue improving the game and its currently mixed reputation.
