The Sinking City 2 has revealed its first gameplay footage. This early look at the survival horror game was carefully timed to promote its newly launched crowdfunding campaign.

Originally announced in early March 2024, The Sinking City 2 is a Lovecraftian survival horror game made by Frogwares, a Ukrainian developer best known for its many Sherlock Holmes titles. Like its 2019 predecessor, the upcoming sequel is designed as a semi-open-world experience blending exploration, detective work, and survival challenges. The Sinking City 2 will be Frogwares' 17th game since 2000, though its exact release timing is presently uncertain.

After months' worth of preparations, The Sinking City 2 Kickstarter campaign finally went live on March 6. Frogwares marked the occasion by releasing various promotional materials, including a new teaser that serves as the very first look at The Sinking City 2 gameplay. The sub-minute video begins by highlighting exploration and clue-gathering before shifting focus to combat, survival, and a variety of increasingly terrifying enemies.

The Sinking City 2 Seeks Over $100,000 in Crowdfunding

The newly launched Kickstarter campaign has a target of €105,000, which comes down to around $113,000. That's 50% more than what Frogwares was seeking for the remake of Sherlock Holmes The Awakened, its only other crowdfunded project to date. The developer's first Kickstarter foray proved to be immensely successful, ultimately raising north of $270,000, thus overshooting its target by 260%. As was the case with Sherlock Holmes The Awakened, Frogwares is once again incentivizing Kickstarter backers by offering not one but two Collector's Editions of The Sinking City 2. Supporting the crowdfunding effort will be the only way to obtain a physical copy of the game.

The Sinking City 2 is set in a 1920s version of Arkham, a fictional Massachusetts city that's prominently featured throughout H. P. Lovecraft's works. Players will get a chance to investigate a paranormal flood that gave rise to a wave of monstrosities terrorizing what remains of the locals, similar to what happened to Oakmont in the first game. Frogwares is officially framing The Sinking City 2 as the next major step in its ongoing efforts to transform into a horror-first developer while simultaneously contuing its open-world experiments.

Frogwares is currently also believed to be working on a remaster of the first The Sinking City game, which leaked via a regulatory rating back in February 2025. While the studio has yet to announce it, it's likely to do so before long, especially with the game's sixth anniversary fast-approaching.
