- Fans express nostalgia and excitement, but future of The Sims series remains uncertain.
A Sims fan has created a series of rooms based off of the decades through the 1900s and early 2000s. These The Sims creations do a great job of capturing the aesthetic of the 1960s, '70s, '80s, '90s, and '00s and have gained attention and praise from the Simming community.
The Sims kicked off at the start of the century, with the original game releasing early in the year 2000. The Sims has, of course, forged an incredibly successful path for itself, with the series still seeing regular releases of expansions and new content for The Sims 4 to this day. Most long-time Sims fans have a favorite entry in the series, and for fans of the original that started it all, this player's creations are a double-whammy of nostalgia.
Sims fan and Reddit user HotCryptographer2090 shared their designs of five rooms decked out in the aesthetic of the 1960s through the year 2000. Each room is shown in isometric view, which was the standard for the original The Sims game. The 1960s room is primarily tones of brown, with a large stereo, lava lamp, and a wall print similar to Andy Warhol's work. In comparison, the 1970s are an explosion of color, with neon prints, geometric designs, and a striking purple chair. The 1980s tone it down slightly, with grays, browns, and zebra print making up the majority of the decorations, with a splash of red.
The 1990s design goes straight into a color overload, with bright and pastel shades of pink and purples, more zebra print, a boombox, and a pair of unique pink and blue puffy chairs. Finally, the 2000s are the most subdued, replacing the zany designs with more timeless looks and primarily black, white, and gray colors.
Sims Players Are Overwhelmed with Nostalgia
Reddit users have been very enthusiastic about the designs, with many complimenting HotCryptographer2090 for how well they nailed some of the artistic and decorative qualities of the individual decades. Some fans hoped that HotCryptographer2090 would go on to make 2010 and 2020 style rooms, but the OP pointed out that since The Sims launched in 2000 and ceased new content in 2003, an unmodded copy of the game wouldn't have a lot to work with. Several expressed how much the nostalgia had impacted them, being reminded of both the eras they grew up in as well as playing The Sims back in the early 2000s.
The Sims has come a long way in its nearly quarter-century existence, though the future of the series is unclear at this time. EA has confirmed that The Sims 5 isn't in the works, though the development of Project Rene seems to be continuing. Fans will have to wait and see what's next for the games, but for now, The Sims 4's Life and Death expansion looks promising.
