October 31 is Going to Be a Sad Day for Simpsons Fans

October 31 is set to be a particularly depressing day for fans of The Simpsons.

Numerous players of The Simpsons: Tapped Out have shared their town builds on Reddit. Every build varies in size and organization, as the game was designed to let players design their own personal Springfield and make it look however they see fit. A large number of the towns being shared, though, come from long-time players who have amassed massive Springfield builds that contain practically every building, character, and memorable area from the series that's been packed into the game over the years. Whether it's regular series staples like Moe's Tavern or one-episode wonders like the Monorail, players have decked out their towns with all kinds of iconic locales.

The Simpsons: Tapped Out Players Mourn the Game

While some fans are coming to terms with this shutdown, there are others who are clearly still not okay with what's happening. Every live service microtransaction-based game comes with the risk of a closure someday, which would mean losing all the progress and items accumulated over the years, whether it's an MMORPG or a mobile game like The Simpsons: Tapped Out. That reality isn't making it any easier for some fans to deal with, though. Players have spent a considerable amount of time - and often money - on The Simpsons: Tapped Out, and won't even be able to revisit their towns outside of looking at recorded screenshots or videos. It's a bitter pill for a lot of fans who have been there since early on, with some even starting petitions to save The Simpsons: Tapped Out.

The likelihood of EA deciding to not shut down the game seems to be practically nil, but there is one additional option if the company wanted to stay in the good graces of its fans. Making the game a single-player experience, even without any new content, would at least let players revisit their towns and possibly continue building them with anything they hadn't yet acquired when the The Simpsons game shuts down. Sadly, while many fans are requesting this, it seems unlikely that it will happen.
