There's nothing worse than dying on the way back to your cocoon in Silksong after dropping a chunk of Rosaries. There is no way to recover lost Rosaries if you die again before you recover Hornet's cocoon, but there are a few ways players can get dropped Rosaries back before they disappear – or prevent Rosary loss altogether.
Hollow Knight: Silksong - Interactive Map (Pharloom)
Our interactive map for Pharloom in Hollow Knight: Silksong. All the skills, tools, benches, and more found in the game.
To prevent Rosary loss from death, Silksong players can either string up their Rosaries beforehand or use an exploit that returns Hornet to the last bench she rested at. The only method to get Rosaries back after you die in Silksong is to recover your cocoon, but if you use a Silkeater item, you can avoid backtracking altogether.
Save and Quit Exploit
Quit Before You Die, then Reload to Spawn At The Last Bench Rested At
When you save and quit the game, then reload your file, Silksong will spawn Hornet back on the last bench she rested at. Because Silksong does not save Hornet's exact location when you exit the game, you can quit out and reload your save to force her to warp back to a Bench – even if you're right about to die.
This Silksong save exploit works up until the moment the Saving icon appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. If you take a hit that takes away your last Mask of HP, and pause the game in the brief moment before this icon appears, you can save, quit, then reload to spawn back at a Bench without losing your Rosaries.
You'll get sent back to the last Bench if you die, anyway, so if you're low on HP and want to preserve your Rosaries, use the Silksong save exploit to save some time and frustration.
Your location won't be saved, but your progress will be. If you collect any items or abilities before you quit out, Hornet will still have them when she respawns at the Bench.
Convert Rosaries Into Rosary Strings
You Don't Lose Rosary Strings When Hornet Dies
Early in the game, you will meet Pebb in Bone Bottom, a vendor who offers an item called a Rosary String. It costs 80 Rosaries to create a consumable Rosary String item, which will grant 60 Rosaries when broken. Notably, this is added to Hornet's inventory, not her Rosary wallet.
Inventory items are not lost upon death, so if you convert your Rosaries into Rosary Strings, you will be able to keep Rosaries when you die in Silksong.
There are many vendors and interactive mechanisms that will convert various amounts of Rosaries into Strings, but the String will always have 20 fewer Rosaries than the cost to make it. For example, Pebb will turn 80 Rosaries into a string worth 60, but in Bellhart, Frey will turn 140 Rosaries into a Rosary Necklace worth 120 Rosaries.
Use a Silkeater Item
Instantly Recover Your Cocoon Without Backtracking
The Silkeater is a consumable item that will instantly break Hornet's cocoon, restore her Silk Meter, and recover Rosaries. To get a Silkeater, Silksong players should keep an eye out for large silken cocoons in out-of-the-way areas throughout all zones.
One of the earliest Silkeaters you can get is located at the top of Greymoor's ruins. Use the Cling Grip ability to climb up the wall in the room directly to the left of the Halfway Home and hit the silk cocoon at the top of the building.
In Silksong, Silkeater items are relatively uncommon and are consumed upon use. Only use a Silkeater to recover Hornet's cocoon if you aren't confident you can get back to it normally or, in the worst-case scenario, to recover a massive hoard of Rosaries without the risk of dying on the way back to your cocoon.
You can also find a Tool called the
Dead Bug's Purse on a corpse within the Wormways area. When equipped, this will retain a portion of your Rosaries when you die, but you will still have to go back and recover your cocoon to restore all Rosaries.
