Summary

  • Silent Hill f is a standalone game, not an extension of the original series.
  • Fans may find subtle nods to the original franchise in the new game.

Konami has shared a message with the community about Silent Hill f, answering frequent questions about how the new game plays into the existing continuity of titles. With Silent Hill f being based in Japan, far from the town of Silent Hill in North America of prior games, and set further in the past than the playable titles, fans have been left scratching their heads about the game's role in the franchise.

While players have expressed curiosity and confusion over the game's setting and time period, it's typical of the Silent Hill series to give more questions than answers, especially in early teasers. The games frequently have surprise story twists, unexpected endings, and other revelations, so fans of the franchise may be expecting this upcoming title to somehow play a major role in the history of Silent Hill.

July 4 is Going to Be a Big Day for Silent Hill Fans

Fans of Konami's Silent Hill franchise will want to mark July 4 on their calendars, as some new facts will come to light about an upcoming title.

Those fans may be disappointed, as Konami has confirmed that Silent Hill f is essentially a standalone game that isn't intended to be an extension of the original Silent Hill series. In the auto-translation of the tweet, the Silent Hill account explains that Silent Hill f is a "completely new work independent of the series" and that the game is appropriate for anyone that's interested in it, with no prior knowledge of Silent Hill required. The account had nothing further to share beyond that, but this statement is in keeping with some of the prior reveals for the game.

Silent Hill Fans Shouldn't Expect Direct Connections

In other promotional materials for the series, Silent Hill f has teased that there will be some small nods to the original franchise present in the game, but they'll be subtle enough that newcomers likely won't think anything of them. However, those who are familiar with Silent Hill may be happy to see them. Outside of that, though, it seems the new Silent Hill f will have next to no connection to the original games. Fans shouldn't expect Silent Hill f to provide any answers to the mysteries left behind by other Silent Hill games, connections to existing characters, nor any explanation for what happens in the town of Silent Hill.

In light of this update, some have still clung to the notion that it will somehow be tied to the original games, with one fan still asking how it's connected to the town of Silent Hill. Another suggested that it might have been better to turn this game into its own IP, rather than piggybacking off of the Silent Hill name since there's no direct connection between the titles. Regardless, fans still seem to be eager for Silent Hill f's release, with many pleading to know when Silent Hill f will come out.
