Silent Hill f is right around the corner, and with the exciting confirmation that the game will be continuing the series tradition of multiple endings, it will be intriguing to witness all the outcomes. After the success of Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 remake last year, all eyes are on developer NeoBards Entertainment's Silent Hill f, as there are hopes that this unique take on the franchise can live up to the hype.
It was recently revealed that Silent Hill f will have five different endings, and as the wait for the game continues, it raises questions about what these various endings will entail for players. The Silent Hill franchise has made multiple endings a staple piece of the experience, and while the finales for Silent Hill f remain mysterious, the series' history has left plenty of clues about what players can expect.
Silent Hill f’s Combat Has Some Fans Concerned
Now that media outlets have gotten a chance to play Silent Hill f for a little while, details about its combat has some fans a little concerned.
Silent Hill f's Multiple Endings Are Unlikely to All Hold the Same Weight Within the Story
A Mix of Sincerity and Downright Goofiness
Over the years, the Silent Hill games have featured ending possibilities that span between heartbreaking and spit-take-inducing. One of the most famous gag endings featured in the franchise is Silent Hill 2's Dog Ending, which reveals that a Shiba Inu behind a control board has been the mastermind behind the story's events all along. The Dog Ending is such a beloved piece of Silent Hill 2 that Bloober Team even recreated it for the remake. For a game that has endings that are as soul-crushing as the In Water finale, the Dog Ending is a hilariously jarring possibility.
Both Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 also feature UFO-based joke endings, further proving how absurd such a serious franchise can be sometimes. With the Silent Hill franchise's history of playful finales, it's likely that Silent Hill f may boast one or two joke endings.
Instead of taking place in the titular town of Silent Hill, Silent Hill f's setting is a fictional Japanese town in the 1960s.
Silent Hill f's New Game Plus is Likely the Key to Some of These Multiple Endings
In addition to the five different endings, Silent Hill f devs have also confirmed that the game will have a New Game Plus. If the Silent HIll 2 remake is anything to go off of, most of these endings might be locked behind New Game Plus. During the first playthrough, Silent Hill 2's remake features three endings, but New Game Plus adds five other possibilities. For the game's devs to go ahead and confirm that Silent Hill f is continuing the New Game Plus tradition, it might be safe to assume that this is hinting toward most of the finale options being saved for the second playthrough.
Silent HIll f is One of Several Horror Games On the Way
- Cronos: The New Dawn - September 5
- Silent Hill f - September 25
- Little Nightmares 3 - October 10
Fans of the horror genre have a lot to look forward to in the coming months. With Cronos: The New Dawn and Silent Hill f both offering terrifying third-person survival experiences, September is shaping up to be a one-two horror-filled punch. Little Nightmares 3 offers a different approach to the genre, but all three are promising to be strong titles to help get gamers into the Halloween spirit.
Supermassive Games' Directive 8020 was originally slated to join the spooky season horror roster, but it was recently delayed to 2026.
Right now, there's no way to know what Silent Hill f's five endings have in store, but they are likely to all be different in major ways. It will be interesting to see if NeoBards Entertainment continues the franchise tradition of featuring a mix of sincere endings with goofy finales, or instead subvert expectations and maintain the game's bleak tone.
