The Silent Hill series is notorious for hiding Easter eggs and secrets in their games for players to discover, and there are more than a few in Silent Hill 2 Remake. These little tidbits of information are a way for developers to pay homage to other games in the series, or reference a completely different franchise.

Keen-eyed players will be able to find these secrets in the game and understand the references. But, just in case you've missed any, here's a complete list of all the hidden secrets and Easter Eggs in Silent Hill 2 Remake.

Players will be able to spot references to the original Silent Hill 2, as well as a couple of inside jokes within the gaming industry. There's a good chance that even the most keen-eyed players have at least missed one of these secrets and Easter eggs in Silent Hill 2 Remake.

The Alternate Masks for James

When starting a new game, players are given a rather odd choice of selecting a mask for James to wear in the playthrough. Although it's optional, it's a cool little nod or more like a foreshadowing of the events to come later in the game.

  • The Pyramid Head mask is foreshadowing an encounter with an executioner monster with the same name. However, the mask is made out of a pizza box which references another iconic line said by James in the original game (more on that later).
  • Mira the Dog mask is a nod to one of the alternative joke endings of the game called the "Dog Ending", which involves a Shiba-Inu named "Mira" and a very disappointed James.

The Abandoned Comic Sans Sign

Silent Hill 2 Remake Easter Eggs - Abandoned Comic Sans Sign

There was a controversy with Silent Hill 2 in the HD collection where the Silent Hill Ranch signboard's font was changed to Comic Sans. This silly font sparked outrage among fans and reviewers, criticizing the game for turning the sign's look into a comical one.

With the release of Silent Hill 2 Remake, fans were looking forward to seeing the latest iteration of the sign. To their surprise, the developers stuck to the original font of the sign, which pleased the community.

However, upon further inspection of the area by using a free-camera mod, players were able to discover the controversial signboard in Comic Sans font. It's still present in the game but thrown away out of sight in the Silent Hill Ranch's barn. This was rather a witty way for the Bloober Team to reference a rather weird era of remasters in the Silent Hill franchise.

Silent Hill 2's Original Map

Silent Hill 2 Remake Easter Eggs - Classic Silent Hill 2 Map

Once players enter the Wood Side Apartments, they'll be able to spot the classic Silent Hill 2 map in the courtyard area. This is a nice callback to the original game, as veteran players have almost memorized the map while playing several playthroughs of the game while waiting for the remake.

Another version of the classic map can be found in Neely's Bar in the Otherworld version of Western South Vale. This map is much more bloody and tattered, reflecting the world it's found in.

Jack's Inn Safe Code

After exiting Rosewater Park with Maria and arriving at Jack's Inn, players must unlock the safe in the main office to get a key to unlock the chain-linked gate. After receiving a clue about the code, the combination turns out to be 0451.

This code has been used in countless games, most prominently in Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Zenless Zone Zero, Bioshock Infinite, Prey, and countless others, originating back in System Shock. This code happened to be the security door code for the Looking Glass Studios in Cambridge, the creators behind System Shock.

This numeric combination was used in the first-ever door code puzzle ever seen in video games. Since then, countless games have reused this code as an inside joke to the history behind it, but also to pay homage to the studio's creation.

The Infamous Pizza Line

Silent Hill 2 Remake Easter Eggs - The Infamous Pizza Line

Silent Hill 2 Remake changed a lot of its gameplay moments, and that comical interaction between James and Eddie in Pete's Bowl-O-Rama was also altered. In the original, James visits the bowling alley with Maria and finds Eddie eating a pizza. James says an iconic line in reaction to Eddie's munching, "This town is full of monsters. How can you sit there and eat pizza?"

The game's community found this scene to be hilarious while forever immortalizing it through memes. Even though Remake changed up this scene to preserve the serious tone of the game, it's still referenced. If players head to Bowl-o-Rama before cutting through Jack's Inn, James will spot a box of pizza on the table saying a rephrased version of the line.

Even though the comedic nature of the moment was removed, this was replaced with James's taunt at Eddie's appetite in the theater.

Theater Screen Flashing Images

After visiting the theater in Silent Hill 2 Remake and meeting up with Eddie, James will head off to find Laura. However, if he stays for some time in front of the blank projector image, he'll witness something for a split second. A video will flash on the screen that first-time players won't know what to make of.

Players who've already completed the game will immediately recognize this scene, which foreshadows Silent Hill 2's plot twist. Maybe this is James' repressed memory freeing itself gradually as he ventures through the Town.

Secret Chainsaw Animation

After unlocking the Chainsaw in New Game Plus mode, players will be able to equip it for the rest of the game. It's the strongest melee weapon in the game, which is quite useful for breezing through enemies.

However, if you equip the chainsaw and stand idle for a few minutes, James will do a special animation lifting it over his head, and screaming like a maniac. This is a callback to the similar animation in the original Silent Hill 2. However, the animation in the original was a reference to Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie franchise and his iconic screams as he chases his victims.

Maria's Classic Outfit

Silent Hill 2 Remake Easter Eggs - Maria's Original Outfit

Silent Hill 2 Remake gave a nice graphical overhaul to most of its characters, including Maria. Maria got a new outfit this time around, changing her look compared to the original. However, when visiting room 108 in Jack's Inn, players can spot Maria's classic dress hanging in the closet.

If you unlock the door and let Maria in, it will trigger an interaction where she'll ask James if the outfit would look good on her. This interaction also counts towards players getting the "Maria" ending, which is obtainable in the first playthrough.

Pyramid Head's Head Knife

Silent Hill 2 Remake Easter Eggs - The Great Knife

Veteran players of the original Silent Hill 2 will remember the moment when James receives Pyramid Head's weapon, the Great Knife, as a weapon. In the original, the weapon can be used towards the end of the game and is quite powerful at striking down enemies.

The same weapon is also featured in the Remake towards the end of Ruined Area in the Labyrinth and right before a boss fight with Eddie. The Great Knife's use is quite limited in the Remake and James drops it after crossing the strange fleshy wall.
