This article has SPOILERS for Silent Hill 2
Bloober Team's remake of Konami's Silent Hill 2 has seen a massive spike in community activity among fans of the horror title, including one player who wanted to recreate Room 312 for their hamster to enjoy the game with them. Silent Hill 2 is widely considered one of the greatest horror games of all time, and the remake by Bloober Team has been well met with critical praise for its quality and even fan crafts dedicated to the resurging popularity of SH2.
Originally released in 2001, Silent Hill 2 sees protagonist James Sunderland searching the terrifying town of Silent Hill for his deceased wife Mary. During his exploration of various locations in Silent Hill 2, James must face off against horrifying creatures of both physical and psychological torment. While the majority of his journey is fraught with struggle, Room 312 serves as a space of hope and solace, earning it a special place in the hearts of both James and players.
Silent Hill 2 Remake: 7 Characters Who Have Changed The Most
Most characters in the remake have the same personalities, but their designs differ slightly from the original Silent Hill 2.
Reddit user Fit-Understanding79 made a scale model recreation of Room 312 from Silent Hill 2 for their pet hamster to explore, just as James does in the game. Towards the end of the game, players must lead James through the Lakeview Hotel in an attempt to find his late wife Mary and discover the true reason behind his presence in Silent Hill. A simple letter from Mary states that she is waiting for James in their "special place," which is revealed to be Room 312 of the hotel. After fighting a number of monsters and completing a series of puzzles at the Lakeview Hotel, players can acquire the key to Room 312 and be treated to a crucial cutscene. The room and its connected story elements have been greatly appreciated by fans over the years, inspiring OP to rebuild a cardboard version for their adorable pet hamster to explore.
Silent Hill 2 Room 312 Scale Model
Fellow Silent Hill 2 fans praised the impressive recreation, particularly noting the detailed inclusion of floral patterned wallpaper and curtains, as well as the armchair and television set that perfectly mirror those in the game. Some reminisced over their first experiences with making it to Room 312 in Silent Hill 2 and remarked on the similarities between the original game, Bloober Team's remake, and OP's cardboard scale model. Other comments teased that OP's video must be a secret canonical Hamster Ending, referencing the legendary Dog Ending in Silent Hill 2, and discussed the other hidden and new endings that are forever tied to Room 312.
The success of the remake of Silent Hill 2 has helped to introduce the iconic horror game to new audiences while also reigniting interest among veteran players. As fans continue to show their love for Silent Hill 2 with custom crafts and passionate discussions, many are keeping their fingers crossed for a positive future for the franchise.
