There aren't many weapons in the game to begin with, and this makes the Chainsaw even more special to use when taking down monsters.

The Chainsaw is one of the highest-damage weapons in Silent Hill 2 Remake, as it's capable of one-shotting all minor enemies in the game. Even if players hit an enemy once, and it's still alive slithering on the ground, James can plunge the Chainsaw into them and grind them until they're taken out. The Chainsaw might sound like the perfect weapon for those looking to breeze through the game, especially since it can take down enemies in one swift swoop. However, this overpowered tool is locked until you have completed Silent Hill 2 Remake at least once.

Once you complete the main story and get your first Silent Hill 2 Remake ending, the New Game+ mode will be unlocked in the main menu. During your second playthrough of the game, you'll have a chance to get Chainsaw.

Where To Find The Chainsaw In New Game+

Chainsaw Location Near Silent Hill Ranch in Silent Hill 2 Remake

Upon starting a New Game+ playthrough of Silent Hill 2 Remake, you will actually be able to get the Chainsaw quite quickly. After you've entered the outskirts of the town and have had a chat with Angela, keep progressing forward until you've arrived at Silent Hill Ranch.

You'll find the Chainsaw stuck in a log right in front of the gate to the ranch (the map location has been marked in the above image). After you get the Chainsaw, you'll be able to use it throughout the game without needing to refuel. The only annoyance with the Chainsaw is its sound; you'll be able to hear it even when it's not in use.

The Chainsaw will help you complete the New Game+ mode in record time, as enemies will drop like flies when hit. It's a much more effective weapon compared to the wooden plank or metal pipe that you get as a starting weapon in the previous playthrough. Additionally, if you stay still for a while, James will do a few unique animations while wielding the Chainsaw, serving as a callback to the original Silent Hill 2.
